tried to find anything in the MR2 owners thread and then realised that wasnt in tech and conversion lol people might miss it.. so here it is again. the driveshafts comment is in reference to length differences betwn e58 LSD and non lsd shafts.(snip)
gday folks
its interesting that the driveshaft stuffs have come up recently as thats something we will need to know in the near future - my brother has been after a manual s/c box to replace his auto one (he misses the manual box hehe). It looks like we ve found a candidate - an e58 lsd. now im not too big on the box conversion details done some reading and searching but not come up anything concrete for the specifics id like to know. (edit : just for clarity the donor car is a s/c and the recipient also s/c - only change being the auto to manual box)
#1 is there a difference between the SC's auto and manual flywheels? i recall years ago when i had a 1600 and swapped the donk the donors auto flywheel was considerably bigger than the original manual one and had to be swapped to allow the new (formerly auto) engine in. is the same appliccable to the GZe? as in i will need to switch the flywheel as well to make the convert work? ive assumed yes and the manual fly is on the parts list.
#2 on what was said fairly recently that the e58 lsd and nonlsd shafts being different lengths on the RHS. does anyone know if its possible to use the driveshafts already on the car (the auto shafts) with the manual LSD box? or if anyone has the measures for the auto shafts?
last lil thing is to ask if anyone heres done the auto/manual conversion and if theres any tips youd have. i already know from looking online i will need to bridge the 'park' safety switch wire so the engine can start up properly, and its also possible reverse light wiring will be necessary. does anyone have any more info on that? the page that did mention it was a lil skimpy on detail is all...
(even better if someone/a workshop here in brissy has already done it! theres not really much substitute for previous experience ive noticed )
thanks in advance
Cheers
(Disclaimer: and yes ive already taken a search or few..)

The flywheel will be different as the auto will have a torque converter instead of a clutch.
I have no idea on the driveshaft thing...

the e58, is from the frontwheel drive ae92 gtz's... i highly doubt you can use the aw11 auto shafts. You know about moving the shifter cables to the otherside?

guy im getting the thing off already has the box in an aw11. hes actually checked the 'plate' for the car which is where hes getting the e58 notation from. ive no idea if he meant the manufacturer plate or a 'mod' plate stating the part but from what hes told me "Going by the chassis plate its an E58 with LSD."
i doubted it too (auto shafts fitting) but i did want to check. one of the driveshafts with the box might be bent and if it is id either have to use the rhs auto shaft (if its correct fit) or find a rhs shaft elsewhere, to complete the conversion.
already knew about the shifter side mod - thanks spank - but as its already in an aw11 thats already done heh, assuming that car was an aftermarket swap.
yup i was pretty sure the fly was different .. couldnt remember what the bit was -torque converter sounds right. heh so thats settled, i did right asking for the manual fly.
thanks for the help so far...

hmm i guess noone knows the measurements for the auto shafts then? i'll have to look up the measures for the e58 shaft then and compare it to the one on the auto.
other than that i guess im looking for a rhs shaft from somewhere (donor cars LHS is ok). one might be easier to find than two but by all accounts on here its gonna be a bitch of a job finding :'( lol
at least finding something sanely priced. $1300 for a new pair from toyo?
admit i also have to wonder about that chassis plate bit, if the e58 was in the gtz. might ask for a pic of the plate to ID it myself... if it turns out its actually an e51 thats okay (just as long as its a 4aGZE box.)
thanks again
