just do a search on the forums and have a look at the articles section of this website, you will find a lot of information there..
In short they are a fantastic motor for the money and whoop ass in any celica shell Only bad point is that they are getting a bit on in the years department..

Yeah. What he said. There's heaps of info on the 1G-GTE in this site. Just look around.
What Celica is it gonna go into? The 1G-GTE will drop into any Celica apart from the TA22/RA22.

Ah, its my celica. My beast is an 1977 ra23, lift back thing... the motor im looking at is in a front cut 1989 supra ga70 and the real question is, the guy said it had a four speed auto with overdrive, when i tried to look it up, i could only find a page that said the autos had manual mode as well. Is that true? anyway the motor is a bit younger than the tired 18rg im pulling out...

stick with the auto hey, you don't need a manual, you couldn't handle the power at 7000 anyway , you will still have plenty of power with the auto a lot more than what you got now, Brandon says

I recently put a deposit on an engine, wiring and W58 package for $2000, with some extras
Just look around, try Asian Auto Spares as well, I'm guessing by Southport you're on the Gold Coast...there is a thriving import market in and around the Brisbane area...

You can grab the auto front cut. Just track down a 1G -> W5x bellhousing... My first 1G was an auto ECU and I never had any problems.
Rev limiter, I've been told, cuts in at 7200.

What is the power like from the 1g in the higher rev range? Does it taper off at all or is it strong all the way up to 7200???

Well, I don't have a tacho, and I'm always bouncing off the limiter. That'll give you an idea on whether the power tapers off or not...
This is what my first dyno graph looked like:
My car made 128.7kW (171.3hp) on that day. Matched a stock 7M-GTE.

Well I configured my tacho myself but it is OK next to independant tacho's so I believe it's OK. and mine revs to 7500. (mind you, my 1G did die eventually so I can't recommend taking it that high...)
Nark, why don't you have a tacho? I configured my tacho from my RA28 to read a 6 cyl and although it may possibly be out by 300 RPM at the limit, it's still damn better than none!! it only took be 5 mins.

I've got my original RA60 tacho. I can get my hands on the GA70 tacho out of my front cut, but I'd have to pry it out of Mos's greasy hands....
I wouldn't mind fixing my tacho... Would be nice to have.... I've driven around for 4 years (I think) without a tacho.....

Dude! you just pull the tacho out and turn a trimpot on the circtu board a bit. All you need is something to match it with, either a 6 cyl with a tacho, or a dwell meter thingy. Just hook both tacho's up and turn the trimpot till they are the same. Only takes a minute once they're out. Then you have your original tacho!
When I came up with this there wasn't anything scientific about it. I just figured that the circut on the board just calculates the RPM from the ignition pulses. After hearing that places would caliberate them for 40 bucks I figured it can't be that hard so I started twisting things and the trimpot did it.
I took Dodgy pics to send to Dylo but I don't think I have them anymore, maybe Dylo still does?

That may be good news with the tacho. I have a RA23 one that I am not using so will open it up and fing the trim pot. May be able to recalibrate at the same time as fitting the wiring for u.
