i was wondering if these engines are meant to wobble so much?
mine has a lot of movement.
checked mounts, etc, they appear fine.
Is it supposed to have so much movement?

They're not a smooth running engine compared to modern equivalents; a bit of wobble is to be expected. It depends how much we're talking though.

Well, I guess it's better that the engine wobbles than the surroundings, meaning the chassis itself.
All engines wobble, and they should !

The bolts might be tight, but how old is the rubber of the mounts ? If its close to 30 years, I would be thinking about replacing them.

I have balanced a coin on its edge on the cam cover of teh idling 7M GE - no visible "wobbling" there? (must be replaced soon with 1JZ)........
I vote that your engine mounts are prolly shot from having 18RG sized oil leaks over them.

Hi,
15cm! Are you serious? That's 6inchs - more than your hand width! I'd be looking at your engine mounts if it was moving that much.

Are you sure the crossmember is bolted in dude?
15cm is a phenomenal amount.
Time to replace lots of stuff.

15cm is ridiculous and unbelievable.
My 3T doesn't even wobble 1.5mm. I barely have 18mm until the intake manifold wipes out the brake master cyl.

How many cylinders are you running on?
They run on 3 cylinders fairly well, but will be wobbly. take out one spark plug at a time to see if the engine dies. If it does then it is dropping to 2 cylinders.
It took me a while to realise mine was only running on 3 when I first put it in.

yeah, it wobbles a lot, which is why I'm worried.
YelloRolla - I'll see if i can get a quick vid of it. its not nice.
When it does move, its violent thrashing in the engine bay.

Pulling the plug leads off one at a time is a great idea. Your engine appears to be running on 2 or 3 cylinders. When you pull a lead off and it makes no difference note which cylinder it is (may be more than 1)
Check the plugs first, you can remove the plug and connect the lead and see if the plug is sparking.
If this is not the problem check your points in the dizzy they may be shot.
Let us know what the fix is
