im in the same position as you ..Dr Psi..
the sad fact is that your gonna be paying through the nose for insurance on any half decent car seeing as your under 25 and on your P's

my suggestion is spend what you need to get a decent car (7k should do it), get 3rd party fire the theft and drive carefully

for me insurance for a pretty much any 4cyl or V6 car (sedan or coupe) its gonna be between 3-4k for comprehensive

but if you must try some of these:
Toyota Supra (around the 89 model, MA70 i think)
Nissan Pulsar (early-mid 90's sedan, try and find a nice Ti Version, the SSS is considered a sports car if i remember correctly)
Nissan Silvia Q (which is the non turbo version)
Toyota Celica (late 80s early 90's model)
Mazda 323 Astina (early 90's model)

thats about all i can think of atm
but find a nice 4cyl non turbo and that should eleviate the insurance pains

steer clear of Commodores or Falcons and V6's, cops and insurance Co's hate em

if ya have any more questions just ask, ive been researching this for a long time Smile

Mate,
I've just decided to sell my car. It's currently not advertised anywhere and I haven't put it on here yet because I need to organise some pics. It's an '86 MA70 Supra 5 Speed, white in colour with grey velour interior. Straight as with no dings and about 3 stone chips. The interior is pretty much unmarked and in particularly good condition. I'm the second owner and its always been garaged since new which was about 260 000klms ago. Its got all the standard Supra bells and whistles (LSD etc) but not the silly electric suspension. The only mods are slightly lower suspension, Pioneer CD player, dark tint and JZA80 wheels which are 16 x 8 and 16 x 9 wide. You can have the std wheels too. Not a gutter bash on them. It still has the standard exhaust! The A/C is nice and cold and the head was done by Brian Hilton Toyota a few years ago. I have the reciept. This is a reluctant sale and not exactly planned. If I had planned to sell it I wouldn't have done the following in the last 3 months:

-New driveshaft centre bearing and rear uni
-Radiator flushed and new plastic top tank fitted. (It had a tiny chip and these split like bakelite with no warning. Not worth the risk of blowing an engine so I replaced it)
-Full service (all oils and filters including the ba$tard fuel filter above the diff)
-New front pads and rotors machined
-New battery and alternator brushes
-2 new front tyres
-12 months rego from last Sunday

I have reciepts for most of the stuff. The only drama with it is a slight leak from one of the power steering hoses. I live on the coast but drive it to work every now and then which is at Eastwood if you'd like to look at it before I post an ad. It sits well on the road with the fat rear wheels and looks the goods. Most Supras seem to have been well looked after but quite often the interior lets them down. I think mine's pretty good. Gimme $6500 and I'll be happy. As I said, its a reluctant sale but I want it gone. If you have about $10 000 to spend your change gets you halfway to a 1J conversion!

recommend corolla AE82 Twincam or AE92 SX as a first car
like so:

there are heaps of ae82's around so parts should be cheap, the 4age engine is worth it... fun.... Evil or Very Mad
