Capturing Video Fri, 11 March 2005 12:48 Go to next message
Can ppl tell me what programs they use to capture video from their Camcorder on to computer I have a few programs:

Ulead video studio 6, Ulead DVD moviemaker , Movie Maker (windows media player)and Imagemixer which cam with the camera,

Movie maker looks smooth, Ulead looks crap and imagemixer doesn't work with the firewire cable for some stupid reason.

But they all seem to make the file abit large.

What do you guys use?

I have a Sony Handycam with Firewire, if that helps.

Hey,

You should be able to change file size by changing the quality settings when you make the final video...

i.e.

...Smaller the file the worse the quality...

Edit my videos with Sony Vegas 5.0 and compress them with Windows Media Encoder 9(free from Microsoft) or DivX.

Hey, where can I get a copy of Sony Vegas?

Also any tips on what quality I should make the video for:
A: Making Home Video DVD
B: Small Clip for Internet viewing (but decent quality)

Vegas is available from a number of shops, Rantronix in Chatswood is a place I know that sells it.retails for about $999 a licence.

Qualities for video, I would recommend 8000Kbps for excellent DVD quality, 6000Kbps for good DVD quality.

A decent quality stream for an online video at full-screen would be 1000Kbps.

Virtual Dub is also pretty handy, great free tool for compression, it's editing isn't what you want for serious video editing though.
