Hi all,
Just got a iPod recently. I just wanted to know how are you able to use the iPod as a external harddrive.
i.e Take a 1GB video file from any computer (work, uni or school)and bring it to the home computer .
I have the iPod software on my computer and i can copy any documents over from that. But i tried to move files on my brother's computer (without iPod software) and it didn't work.
Does that mean, every computer i want files out of, it needs the iPod software?
How do i do this??!
Cheers

As long as you're running a current operating system (Windows 2000 or XP), when you plug in the iPod, it should automatically install in about 10 seconds. If its an older OS, you might have to install the software.
It will come up in 'My Computer' as a new drive, then simply open it and browse it like any other drive on your computer. Drag and drop the files you want to it.

the host computer simply needs to support removable drives attached to USB or Firewire ports,
any mac will recognise and mount the drive without need for extra software.

hook it up using usb
and go to control panel, and add new hardware
assuming you're using windows though...

Yeh thanks guys,
i think the reason was my brothers dodgy USB drive.
Does anyone use firewire to transfer files/songs instead of USB?
is it heaps faster?

ummm if u have itunes installed it wont work as a USB drive by default (or it used to..)
There was an option to "allow use as external hard drive" somewhere in it
I dont use itunes so i dont have that problem
