CHEAP 18R MODS
Sat, 12 March 2005 01:42
DOES ANY ONE KNOW HOW TO GET CHEAP PERFORMANCE OUT OF THEM ILL DO ALL TH WORK MYSELF. I GOT 2X 18R'S AND 1X 16R.
WAS THINKING 18R BLOCK CRANK AND RODS, 16R HEAD, 22R PISTONS?
CAN YOU HELP?
Easiest would be to just dump the 18R and put in an 18RG. Twin cam crossflow head, twin carbs, should put out around 90-100kw at the flywheel. As a bonus there are a few in the for sale section at the moment... Its probably going to be the cheapest way to increase performance.
The biggest hassel is rigging up a cable to the throttle, but get the pedal and cable out of an RA65 and you should be set.
You can also get an EFI version of the engine but this will require some work on your fuel system as well.

u dont need to convert to cable if u dont want to. they origionally are made to utilize the links setup.....you only need to shorten one of the links and remount a pivot to go from 18rc --> 18rg (except GEU)
although i would suggest cable.
i used a MX62 cressida cable and pedal...easy to put in
If uv got the resources and know how to port n polish do that. Bare in mind that the overall finish of ports only counts for 4% of the air flow. The major browny points for gaining air flow is the material u take out, not the surface finish of ur ports.
