Hi just wondering if any one out there has attempted or knows any one that has done this conversion b4. And could possibly let me in on some secrets. To me it looks straight forward just a few little things, could be easier way to do them.

The question has to be asked why? what to be different. Just get a skyline motor in there, or better yet spend the money you would of spent on working the RB30et and get some real power out of it. the 7mgte ain't really the best engine to put in heavy, reliability issue and too much work. just stick a nissan engine and the money u save can be spent on mods like bigger brakes and better suspension.

Well for the fact i have done about three rb conversions into vl's( my first was around 4-5 years ago makes me nearly one of the first) id thought of going for something a little different. Got the 5 speed box and engine for $600. Cant complain about that. Got a whole bunch of bolt on goodies aswell 45mm wastegate huge turbo and cooler. If it puts 400 to the ground well hey id be stoked. Since there are sooooooooooooo many of the rb conversions out now i didint really want to follow someone else. And thanks waxE for your website.

i say go for it, 7m's aren't as bad as everyone makes out, just do the head gasket and torque it right from the beginning and you should be right. thumbs up!

I own 7m's and my dad used to own a VL pursuit turbo (T04 upgraded turbo) and with a "small" intercooler he was pulling low 13's. used to fish right through 1+2 in the auto....
In other words, keep the Rb30 and do it up. It will cost you a LOT less, and will be easier to get Blue plated/ regod/ insured.

spend the money on the rb25/26 twin cam head conversion and aftermarket ecu.
It will cost a little more than the 7m swap, but at the end of the day very similar features, and you will have aftermarket tuning for future mods.

Isnt the Rb20 head supposed to be the ducks guts expense vs performance wise upgrade?

I like doing things different, heck I was thinking about getting a VL and sticking a 2JZGTE in it. Go for the 7M, just sold my 7MGTE powered supra & I was very pleased with the performance in a untuned state. Nothing like a TOYOTA engine at your right foot
