What would be better to tow with?
I'm thinking of getting a VL commodore, would manual or auto be better to tow with?
And, any toyota options that would fit the bill?

a Crown or Cressida.
Cressi would cost about the same as a VL, have a bajillion more luxury options and be a million times better built.
There are a few cheap MX83s going around!!

If you are Toyota a car and car trailer, call up a towbar company and find out what cars can handle towing 2 tonnes.
There aren't many that can do it happily.
If you are only towing a caravan or a boat, ignore this.
