Very cool.. Would love to get the RA28 instrument panel woodgrain redone Smile but dont know how they'd go keeping the parts around the gauges black.

After looking at some of the pictures and checking out "their process" I'd say it wouldn't be too hard to keep the parts around the gauges black.
From their process description they spray a base coat and then dip the thing through a mask of sorts and then spray it with 2 pack.

I assume the mask would be some form of very thin clear plastic that sticks to the piece and they can probably cut it whilst its still wet.

A cabinet maker friend is going to make me new inserts for the instrument panel in the 23. They have heaps of different surface contacts ranging from brushed alloy to many different woods.

All I really need to do is find an A3 scanner so that I can scan it and make him up a template for him to make a jig. I used my A4 but it was a bastard scanning it in 3 sections and lining it up perfectly in photoshop.

Don't suppose anyone has a template??

I have just redone the radio surround in the console and turned sydney upside down looking for a wallnut burl veneer (like the original dash wood) I don't suppose your mate could track that down??

I ended up using a straight grained wallnut veneer. It turned out allright but the stain wasn't quite the right colour. I'm not too disapointed though, I have my DIN CD player in and it looks neat.

All of the Commodore stuff is done in Sydney by a mob called "Cubic".

Not 100% sure if it is the name of the place or the mob that actually makes the film, but that is who does ours.

Some of it looks OK, but some of the stuff is a bit sad.

I have a template. I took the original laminate off my old panel, it was a RA28 with that dodgy fake woodgrain laminate. It came off in a thousand pieces, I spent the time piecing it together like a puzzle. So now it is on a piece of cardboard and goes well in a photocopier. So PM me if you want one. Also there's a guy in the classic car restoration mags, that does all the classic cars, he is quite reputable. I've seen some of his work first hand and it is top notch. I think his name is Bob's Woodgraining or something like that.
