Hey guys,
My starter motor has been playing up so i decided to visit my local auto electriction, they said he could get me a brand new starter motor to suit my corolla 3K, made in japan with a 2 year warranty for 165$, or i could get my old one reconditioned for like 300+. So i decided to get the new one for 165$ i was just wondering was this worth it? i havent put it in my car will be going in tommorow, i just hope i didnt get ripped off. Has anyone else bought a new starter motor before from japan?
Thanks,
Brad

havent ever bought new fron japan,
but $300 is an expensive recondition compared to over here (NZ), i usually recondition starters for around $150+gst (im an auto sparky), prob would have been better buying a second hand one locally froma wrecker, what exactly was wrong with yours ?

What was wrong with mine was it didnt engage probably like it kinda whirred over and over until after a couple of trys it would kick and start up. So i got a new one from Japan.

$165 is a pretty good price for a brand new starter but $300 for a reco , you could buy a whole KE30 for that .

Hey,
Yeah the auto elect guy just said to me it will cost a hell of a lot more than just buying a new remanufacted one for 165 so i thought why not!

sounds like the solenoid plunger isnt going forward, thus the pinion isnt engaging
