Anyone here running a short shifter on their T50 box? Looking for feedback from people who have used any of the shifters available. Also where are they available from?

Ive got on that was home built 3 years ago to TRD specs, still going well, could have made it a fraction shorter perhaps thats all

A few guys here have some T3's on order, not sure if they have recieved them yet though.
I have installed a T3 item but have not driven the car yet, it's still going together. Shift feels positive, but without driving it I cannot offer a judgement of any value. It doesnt feel like a 60% throw reduction or whatever they quote, when I read that I expected it to be even shorter.
Referring to the link posted above - everyone is quick to bag T3's or say short shifts wreck boxes etc (why do purpose built race boxes not have syncromesh what do you expect?) - but until you've heard/had 1st hand experience you'll never know if its another e-myth blown out of proportion (no disrespect to those posters).
Side Issue
As far as racing testimony goes...there's plenty of ego's trackside who are convinced that all their ideas are right and will voice their opinion like its gospel...don't believe all of it, it's mostly codswhallop. The smart guys are usually the quiet ones. Just be sure to ask why everytime someone tells you this/that won't/can't/doesn't work, you'll be surprised how many can't answer with any conviction.
My car won't be going for another 6 or 8 weeks so I can't be much help unfortunately. Shop smart

Isn't this due to the fact that race prepped boxes would have straight cut rather than helical gearsets? It's not only to do with the syncromesh but the actual gears as well.
I think the point is that many of our cars here would be daily drivers, hence if an installed item (regardless of whether it's used for race or not) causes damamge to the car, it would be useful to know about it beforehand.
Eddie.

That's right Eddie (re: g/box).
Realistically though, if it's a daily driver & does the occasional trackday, the majority of shifting is not going to be in anger in the same fasion as a track car (Though i'm not disputing that many people hammer their boxes on the road). And an engine like the 4ag, having little torque (NA we're talking here), needs plenty of revs - which on a circuit means lots of shifts to keep it in the powerband (peaky tuning), and typically high input shaft speeds. It equates to a punishing effort on a road g/box. But it's all relative, we're not comparing to F1 here, just to larger engines with torquier deliveries.
Conversely, an everday car endures many more gearshifts and running hours, I will be interested to see how my T3 holds up.
FWIW, Gabriel from T3 *claims* to get lots of good wraps on them. (But then what else would he say)? The quality of manufacture on them seems tidy though.
My 2 bobs.

I have one of the rarer shifters by C's. I find it quite good in its action, and its dampened so it doesnt rattle around like the TRD one. The TRD one is horrible at high speeds because the dampener is really hard and so the shifter rattles around. This is what wears the synchros, and destroys boxes.

Most seem to go for the C's as the shifter of choice. I got a quote for $366 incl postage as opposed to $235 incl postage for the T3 shifter. Now this is a big difference. I would like to know what people find wrong with the T3 shifter? Has anyone here actually driven a car with this shifter?
This is all planned for a vehicle that is strictly street driven so it wont be getting a flogging through the gears like a race car. I'm keen to settle on a T3 depending on what sort of rating people have given it.

Another problem with my TRD short shift is that it transmits g/box noise into the cabin. Probably a side effect of the poor damping.
Its a bit annoying, but i can live with it for the shorter shift.

Why don't you just chop it shorter and reweld the top back on?
Or if you were really concerned about track/street buy one of those sticks of thread from bunnings and make it adjustable length haha..

Previous owner of mine did the same thing. Then stuck the gearknob back on with a bit of hope and spit. After 2 days of being sick of the knob coming off on downchanges I decided to fit a new knob. So after angle grinder treatment and the new knob fitted the whole thing broke off... 100 ks from home.
Lucky for me my old man has a lathe and we could turn up an insert to take the new knob and fit inside the remnants of the original stick...
The whole thing seemed so cunning at the time, and so stupid now... nearly as stupid as the choice of a black metal gear knob for a car that lives outside in Australian summers
Cheers,
Dan

Hemi I think you have missed the point on how a short shifter really works.
Final Note: For road driving, short shifters are better than stocko's because they make it easier to change gears without spilling your coffee on the way to work
