Car Security Idea...

Hey all
OK now out of all security features i think paging alarms are pretty good with there different "levels" of pagin thingo's
But they can be annoying if friends play pranks on u or if someone just bumps your car or is leaning on it or whatever
I was thinking about paging motion detectors inside the car .....
u know the ones inside buildings ??? ....put one or two of them inside your vehicle....then when your paged u know for sure that someone's inside your car ...
What do u guys reckon ???

Thats a pretty sweet idea, is there nothing like it already?
Pity if your far away from your car.. could be too late by the time you get there.

Depends what type of motion detectors you have in mind and where you mount them!
Cause they do work through windows! So someone walking past could set it of!

I girlfriend of mine had one of those in her car for a while.. But it was that sensitive that even a fly in the car would set it off.. or when her mobile rung it would go off.

ok... people... please....
firstly... those home alarm motion detectors... also known as PIR's (passive infra red)... are useless in a car cos they are designed for a long distance, and run off AC voltage... not DC that u have in your car.
Secondly... DO NOT use ultrasonics!!! they are useless CRAP! they are bastards to tune properly, they change their tuning of their own accord, and half the time just false trigger for no reason.
If you want a nice internal sensor... use microwave sensors. You can get them in both dual and single zone, they are easy to tune and very reliable! With dual zone you have 2 seperate sensor zones, so u can have one inside the car, and another just around the outside of the car that can "prewarn" your alarm.
I speak from experience using those ultrasoncs... i did car alarm installs for over a year... i HATE ultrasonics!

they are a small plastic device you place in a central location in the car, and they sense the movement of mass within it's set "boundary" or "zone" via microwaves. Hence it will work thru just about anything other than metal (so will work thru glass, plastic, seats etc). Unlike ultrasonics with are simply line-of-sight.
Talk to a car alarm place (not strathfield) about them... they just hook up to the trigger wire of your alarm.

No they do not run on AC voltage! They HAVE to run on DC!! They can however be run from a DC power supply that runs from the AC!

back to the original thread.........
i agree with THE WITZL, the dual stage microwave sensor would be the best thing to use. i too have installed alarms for a few years. if you had a installer who know's what they are doing, get them to hook up the pager alarm to the interior perimeter function of the microwave sensor..when set correctly if some-one goes really close to your car (or put their hands on the window to look in) it will give of some warning beeps, once the outside perimeter is set of (warning beeps), the inside perimeter is armed, and then if some-one happens to then put their arm in a open window, the alarm will fully go off, and send to your pager...
