About 10-12 degrees about the thermostat opening temp.

Gidday
Toyotas run low around 82 deg thermostat, and this is what I have in my 1ggte. I switch in the fans at 87 deg, but can't remember what temp it cuts out. If you want to keep you head gasket intact please do not have the fan come in at 10-12 deg above the planned running temp. of the engine.
Be careful with advise that you receive as often it is opinion - I received similar advice and it cost me an engine as I used a thermo switch for the fan that bought it in at 92 deg.
To be sure check with your local Toyota dealer and confirm the position with the Lexus 200.

My thermostat is 82 deg C.
The thermo's kick in at 94 and off at 84.
Works perfectly.
Granted that its not a 1ggte, but if you are blowing head gaskets for 10degrees above the thermostat level, then your motor was fucked beforehand.

You obviously don't want the thermo's to wait too long before switching on but at the same time you don't want them to be switching on and off too often. If you find they are then you have the temp set too low.
On at about 94 and off at 84 sounds reasonable and while I haven't measured mine it would probably be the same. Also note that some 1G's are fitted with 89 degree thermostats which I think is a bit high for Australian conditions.
