MX73 Cress Manual Conversion? Tue, 15 March 2005 12:02 Go to next message
Hey all, I was just wonderring how much it would cost to convert an MX73 Cressida to manual, aswell as how much work would be involved.

What gearbox is needed? Are Supra pedals able to be used? Was there ever a Manual version of this car?

Thank you all in advance.

Budget $1000 and that should easy cover it.

Yeah, thats what I did mine with first time.

You need an M series bellhouing, probably from a Crown, or a MkII Corona, and you'll need the shifter position in this pic, otherwise it won't come up in the middle of the hole.

mark II corona bell housing would probly be the easiest/cheapest to find. they have a 4M engine and a W40 (4speed)

so the M series end of the bellhousing will fit on your 7M and the other end of the bellhousing will fit on a W50 (ra23 - ra40 and others) gearbox.

actually this will be the hardest bellhousing to find

the easiest will be a MA61 supra bellhousing, a non-turbo MA70 supra one and to a lesser extent from a crown (MS50 - MS80 round abouts).

would you not then be stuck with being able to use W55, W57 and W58 boxes only?

Personally i would be using one of these boxes over the W50 celica box, mainly because they are more common with the rear shifter position.

well there you go.

i just thought that they would be easy to find because there has been a few for sale up in my area.....thought it may be a similar situation down south.

i could have got the whole car which i got the diff from (mx13) but i only needed the diff and tow truck fees would have been not worth it. i was going to get the bellhousing but was to much work for something i didnt need

He would have a 5M-E or a 5M-GE, not a 7M, but your right that bellhousing will fit.

If he wants to use a W50 he won't be able to use the MA61 or MA70 bellhousing (which are apparently really hard to find these days anyway!). Btw good luck finding a manual crown with a W55/W57/W58!!! I don't think I've ever seen one!

Cheers
