Yep, both my old TA22's had the same thing. However my RA23 and my MA61 Supra both lack any sort of lockout mechanism... perhaps Toyota decided it wasn't necessary?

cough cough cough
to my knowledge all celica 5 speed alloy boxes have this, there is nothing special about it.
All 5 boxes that I have seen have got it, if your box doesn't have it I would say it's probably worn back. Even in the manual it tells you to lift the stick to get in reverse.
nothing special about it.
just my two cents

haha my t50 in my TA22 didn't have to be lifted to get it in reverse, but i pulled the shifter and stuff out of the top of the box for some reason when i first got it, then when i put it all back together, i ended up having to lift it to get reverse! and it's been like that ever since lol. I think it was worn and when i put the collar back in i moved it slightly.
