4k Won't fire Wed, 16 March 2005 03:38 Go to next message
Hey people, I was at work last night and just as i was about to go home when my could wouldn't fire.
It would crank alright but not fire. I was not in the best mood so this made it a lot worse.
So i thought screw this i'm going home. So i went back this morning and looked for obvious signs. i checked Battery, leads, plugs, fueses, dizzy and coil but nothing appeared to be wrong.
I tested the spark plugs and there was no sparking. I took the dizzy cap off and the was nothing broken or screwed.
So i am thinking what the hell is going on???
Also i noticed an ignition box. Could be something wrong with that?
Could the coil be fucked?
Something else wrong?

Anyone got any ideas about it??
Any help is much appreciated cause i don't wanna spend money as i am doing the conversion soon but i need my car.
Cheers
Michael

Same thing happend to me turned out to be the ballast resistor,
try turning the key over so that the engine lights are on take the dizzy cap off and rotor button, using a flat blade screw driver flick the points open to see if there is any spark there.
If not check the wiring to the coil then and the ballast resistor, check for any craking or just replace it for a about $5
if its old.

Thanks for the replies,
Michael

Hey guys nothing was wrong with dizzy. I have a feeling it may have something to do with after market coil thing. Its a black box connected to the ignition with really dodgy wiring.
So tomorrow night i have to do a dodgy towing job to an auto-electrician to have a look at it. Which is shit because i don't wanna spend money on this engine when it will be taken out in a few weeks!!
Oh well thanks for the help guys. I'll let you know what the auto-electrician says.

Well that black box was fucked to say the least. The wires inside had fully melted and stopped everything from working. Well $119 Crying or Very Sad later its working fine with the black box thing chucked in the bin and all new wires hooked up.
THanks for the help guys.
