not bad , but i would of spent more time on the shoulder than polishing though. i don't polish mine any where that much, i like to decease any angles that air need to flow around, but it looks good.

which shoulder are you specifically referring to? the short side radius? i was under the impression that it was best to leave as much material there as possible, and simply radius it as best as possible, making a nice smooth curve with blended transitions...

any specific suggestions as to what i could improve where, and why?

cheers
ed

Looks like a good blend, I like the valve guide area, exhaust ports are good.

Now you really must get comparison flows.

Hey ed,

Looks great. Although I'm not an expert.

I'm gonna ask for a dremel for chrismas now.

How hard is it to do a port job? How long does it take? Could *I* do it?

craig, no fear of a mix up im afriad... check your PM's, im just about to drop you a line about the head...

pete: yeah, you can do it, takes freaking FOREVER, and i probably dont recommend doing much more than a stage 1 port, ie clean up casting dags and smooth all the corners. once you start getting adventurous, and try to do an actual flow character change, youre heading off into no-mans-land as a first timer.

that said, for stock cams and mild engine work, a stage 1 port will make all the difference you want. more would be wasted.

im going to put up a HEAP of tech info on porting theory and technique, have a read when its up Smile

cheers

Head porting is a black art.

Gone are the days when flow figures are solely inspected at max valve lift. That has been found to be quite misleading.

Porting each head canal in such manner that we have a fistful of aluminium crumbs on the floor will yield power. No doubt about that. Since engines are not constant velocity inventions, head canal should support/assist flow with mediocre rpm's. This is where pro's know-how steps in.

I really enjoy doing things by myself. I however respect professions (and professionals) that have been in a business for a long time, and being involved with something as complicated as fluid/gas flow mechanics.
There is more than meets the eye. That's why I'll go the lenght to have a pro do my head.

Nothing wrong in doing the 'stage 1' job DIY way. Smoothing casting nicks and so forth - cannot go wrong with that.

God speed and happy motortuning to all Smile

-A.
