Hey, ive looked around and i still cant really find if they are the same engine or not. could any one help me out whether they are the same or differnet, and if so what difference?

Seeing as most 1gs come from Japan i would dare say that they all have a U in them, as i dont know of a country that the 1ggteu was released in other than japan

So this is true then? the GTE and the GTEU are the same engine? Or does the GTEU have some extra emissions stuff attached? If it does, can this be removed easily? Just want to make sure if I get a GTEU I'm not suffering a 30 horse power loss or something

In general, Japanese emmisions gear does not choke a motor (22R-E excluded).
If its working properly, then it only does something at idle/vacuum, and switches off under WOT.
Its when it gets gummed up that it affects performance.
