4age 16v head on 4agze block Thu, 17 March 2005 21:34 Go to next message
I currently own a 4agte sprinter, the motor is originally a 4agze with turbo and exhaust manifold. I am just looking at ways for power gains and better drivablility. As I have been told the small port head is ideal for this setup(jdm 4age from levin/trueno, correct me if im wrong)

What are the specific gains in using the 16v head on a 4agze block? Is the small port ideal for this head conversion or are there other ways to fit/modify the big port? Does the head bolt straight on, and will it require any modifications to the inlet manifold?

all help will be much appreciated

Cheers

all 4a heads are interchangeable with all 4a blocks.

HOWEVER: if you had a smallport 4agze, then your head is IDENTICAL to a smallport 4age. Likewise a bigport 4agze and 4age.

NB: if you have a bigport head currently, you will need a different intake manifold or adaptor plate if you decide to use a smallport head. I have done a couple of threads (one in particular being a guide to converting the FWD smallport manifold to RWD) which can help you here.

Look up Bill Sherwood's site: http://www.billzilla.org/4agstock.htm

to find out the specs of the engines. The 4agze is already a 16v so I think you're getting a little confused with the heads/blocks. In a turbo setup, the bigport head seems better due to the ability to stuff more air into the larger ports. The AE82 4age also has the bigport head. You'll need to check what kind of head you currently have as the GZE came in both large and smallport heads.

Eddie.
