AE71 and KE71? Fri, 18 March 2005 06:12 Go to next message
Hi,

What is the difference between an AE71 and KE71?

Will a front passenger window on a KE71 fit into a AE71?

Thanks

The first letter of any toyota model number denotes the series of motor (for some, its the first two letters e.g. JZZ30).

The AE71 was the very last of the RWD corolla's (in Australia anyway). Nearly identical in appearance to the KE70, but has a few minor cosmetic differences. As meantioned the engine in a AE71 is a 4A-C and all manual versions came with a 5speed T-50 gearbox. KE70's came with a 4K-C engine and manual versions came with either a K40 (4speed) or K50 (5speed) box. I am unsure of any differences between diffs. I know the KE70 came with a borg warner type diff (nice and easy to weld Smile

All most all parts are directly interchangeable between them, besides the running gear componentry.

yep, the AE86 corolla was pretty much the last RWD corolla AFAIK. The AE71 ended a little sooner than them.

there are two types of the xE7x corollas - early and late model.

Early was ONLY KE70.
Late was KE70 & AE71 - shovel nose.

ke70 also came in shovel nose, but alot less common, your more liekly to see a flat nose ke70, and all ae71s are shovel nose
