I love RA28's, I wouldn't have any small Jap car if it wasn't an RA28. Having said that the black one at the top of the thread is freakin' ugly man. I don't like it one bit.
Anthony's is cool though. It'd look better silver though.

Hi,
That particular RA28 "TA GOD" is in New Zealand. Mike Wilson, the owner, had done up the interior and everything and it was in their national car magazine also. I can provide the links if you want 'cos the info is not in Toymods but another Celica site.
It's running an 18RG. I'm not sure if it's an LT that's been done up to GT specs or if it was originally a GT. In any event, yes, it sure is a sweet looking car and one of the best RA28 I've ever seen.
When I saw this car for the first time I instantly knew what wheels I wanted for my car. Those old Soarer (15 x 6) rims suit the older Celicas like a hand in a glove.
He was in a NZ cruise the other week and asked me to join him, but alas, my old girl can't swim - otherwise I would of joined him.

Yeah, how inconsiderate!
First I've gotta move the wifes powder-blue Civic, so I can then move one of the girl's Nissan EXA, which will allow me to move the other daughter's VL Commodore, then I can finally get the Cedric out.
Those old Toyota "dim sim on wheels" RA25s don't have side intrusion bars, so I reckon the old Cedric will crumple and push that pile of red/brown rice out of the way!

that purple one in NZ isn't Mike's, its Tarry Mortlock's (posts as Tmax on most forums, not sure if he comes on here).
Mike had nothing to do with it, although he does have a couple of 28's and 2 RA35's as well.
Tarry's car is a genuine GT (you reckon they're rare over your way, they're like hens teeth over here) and he's got pretty much all the mint GT parts for it as well, even the little rectangular exhaust outlet. it's been taken right back to bare metal (got photo's somewhere) and is probably the most careful build i've seen. 18R with twin carbs, sounds nice and goes pretty well (he let me drive it ). my old V6 RA28 used to be quicker but his definitly handles better.
not sure if its the one Mike (he knows about it and he's coming) was talking about but we're having an early celica meet this coming weekend on the 10th, there's quite a few cars confirmed (not toymods numbers but pretty good for NZ) and i can't wait.
Tarry's car in the build:

same photo as up top but photoshopped, i love this look but it would be a bitch to drive:

and my favourite RA28, found the pic on this board somewhere, i think the cars american but can't remember details:

cheers

Hi,
Yes, my bad... you're right, it is Tarry's car.
I met Mike last year when he was doing his Australian Celica Tour and popped in to take some photos of the old girl. You Kiwis all look and sound the same to me
I remember Mike saying he's got a TA27. He was in the slow process of doing it up. I'd love to see how it's progressing.
Gold28, assuming you owned a rare JDM GT in fine & original condition, would you toss the 18RG and chuck in a 1G? Would you sell it while you're going overseas for a few years?
I can't beleive you'll be hanging around for a few more months to bug me!

I love the RA 28, there are some awesome cars here, the first one is too over the top for me.
I was so close to getting one way back in 1989, with the idea of putting in a turbo 18 RG, seemed like a logical progression from my RT 104 Corona. But alas i took an different path and got an AE 82 Twin Cam, still a great car but you can beat the look of the RA 28 IMO

1G is substantially lighter, and more suited to the older celicas, allowing for better weight distribution.

h3ff44..... Gold28 was right... It is the same car... mine!!
The 1G-GE photo is misleading, It is Grant's RA23 engine bay photo, not mine.. You can actually see my wheel in the top of the middle photo....
You can see more pics of the car here...
http://www.pbase.com/duttonrally/nsw05_78
It was the first road registered 1J conversion in Australia that I know of...
Currently the car has 355rwhp on 14psi on stock turbos. I ran the rally on 20psi. I have yet to run on the dyno with 20psi but I am hoping to have over 400rwhp....
I have run the stock turbos for 8 years now. I am trying to prove people wrong about the stcok turbos... and I am not doing to badly

Thanks... Most people talk about 300rwhp is not possible without the turbos going bang. I think that with the right setup (I have ecu, cams, etc etc) I thnk 400rwhp is more than possible....
When the bank balance allows, I will fit up a pair of GT28s to show what a good twin setup can do. Most people think big singles are the way to go... but I can't be changing my Toymods username now can I???
