fuel pump for AW11 with modified 4AGZE Sun, 20 March 2005 10:15 Go to next message
Hi,
Can anyopne suggest a suitable fuel pump for an AW11 SC MR2 which will making around 200hp fly hp or so. I'm sure the stock one would just cope, but heck its 17 years old so I may as well get a new one and think of it as my insurance policy! I have heard that a 7MGTE pump is a direct swap but I want a new pump and also not a 'mega$' genuine Toyota part.

Cheers, Nick

u can get an aftermarket new pump but where are you going to put it as there is no room under the car for one as the petrol tank is between the seats. the 7mgte fuel pump is a direct replacement and is easily able to cope with your power demands. Maybe you should give toyota a call and see what the price is before you make any decisions you might find it is the same price new as it will cost you to buy and set up an aftermarket fuel pump. The stock supercharged mr2 fuel pump can handle 200hp anyways i definatley know the stock n/a aw11 fuel pump can support 150-160 hp as thats what mine has. I also know of quite a few people making 200hp in gze mr2s with the stock fuel pump.

Walbro 190L/hr should do it, or 255L/hr will definitely work.
they can be gotten for as little as $50-60 on ebay (inc shipping)

look for the holley branded ones.

you meant like this?

http://www.mr2mk1club.com/turbo_files/turbo60.jpg

"I did a bit of research into wether or not the 4a-ge in tank fuel pump would deliver enough fuel pressure to the 3s-gte, most people have carried out this swap on superchargers which have a higher fuel pressure pump than the NA and I've been told they haven't had any problems. However there was no definite yes or no as to the NA pump being up to the job, for those who haven't changed a MK1 fuel pump let me just say it's a pig of a job, basically the whole tank has to come off to get at it and the tank has more pipes going to it than Middlesborough! So with already having a turbo fuel pump spare I decided to fit it anyway to be on the safe side.

Here's the two fuel pump carriers, the 4a-ge carrier is on the left, the turbo on the right, the inlet and outlet pipes are a different length and also the turbo carrier is about an inch taller than the 4a-ge, however both pumps are identical to look at sharing the same wiring and plumbing connections. You could get away with just fitting the turbo carrier without swapping pumps as it bolts on in the same place but the pipes do need altering. Here you can see the turbo pump fitted to the 4a-ge carrier on the left. I happened to have a spare 4a-ge carrier so I fitted it to this ready for the tank coming off. The tank will be removed as soon as the engine comes back out as there is lots of pipes to disconnect in the bay. "

ive also heard theres a supra item that is the same deal as the 3sgte one - id say that'd be that 7mgte pump youve mentioned? same process involved fitting it as described here i believe. pig of a job yes but if i ever had my engine out id rather want to do it then than later.. and toyo may be mega buck but thats partly why yours is still going after 17 years? just a thought

Cheers

i know my mate used to run his n/a fuel pump in his boosted 3sgte ae82 twin cam corolla.

Replacing the fuel pump with the 7mgte pump may be a pig of a job but atleast its in the location that toyota intended and is nice and neat when finnished.

For my 3sgte-aw11 I've gone for the 255lph walbro. It's been used with much success over in the states and I think will flow well enough for a modded 4agze.

This is mine mounted for the aw11 fuel tank, cost about $150 from memory.

i dont know about any pics as the car has been sold now and hes not exactly the internet type.

He did this conversion about 4 years ago and he says its a very laborious task getting a 3sgte into the ae82.

This biggest problem with the conversion is the physical space inside the engine bay as heat soak becomes a problem and finding space for a intercooler is also an issue.

Im not sure what gen motor it was but it was from a gt4 running 14psi of boost, a haltech computer, 1ggte intercooler front mounted, 2 davies craig thermofans on the radiator and various other things like cosworth bonnet vents. He was using a toyota camry 5 speed gearbox as he didnt buy a half cut.

I have seen the car in person and its one tight fit with only 2mm between the strut tower and the cam belt.

Watching an in car video of this car running only 6psi its scary to think what 14psi would have been like as 240km/h came and went very quickly.
