getting my rsa and rcg next week, is that just like a minimum? would i need anything else to actually stay ahead of the crowd? there's this thing called barmax, i really don't know wtf it's for... and a cocktail licence and one for coffee? wtf
the mrs. works at a cafe and i'm pretty sure she doesn't need a licence for that!
also, want to hook me up?

rsa and rcg is the only items required by law.
if you want to work as a barrista tafe run short courses that might help you get a job.
also most small cafes and things like pastry shops might be a good place to start untill you lern how to make good coffee.
theres always plenty of barwork around, look in the paper. experiment with diffrent drinks when you go out so you are aware of the products and labels you will be serving.
if you cant find anything local try working as a glassie or bar usefull for awhile!

also look into RSL's if you're after part time work that pays well. hours aren't the best but the pay makes up for it.

Me too! except im a barmaid.
Go for the clubs over pubs. Easier work, better atmosphere, better treatment, you know you will receive your entitlements etc.
Plus, most clubs shut fairly early compared to pubs and you are more likely to pick up day time or arvo shifts.
If you havent worked behind a bar before and have to money, look at doing the barmax course, so at least you have a few skills and you can show prospective employers you are keen to learn. MOst positions that are avertised want experienced people, so the best way to crack into the industry is to print up heaps of resumes adn just drop thewm into every pub and club in the area.
