depends on how much you have to machine off to bring back to true?

but if the hat/mounting parts have also moved/warped then it might be safer/cheaper to chuck it as you might not get a long life out of it.

haha thanks guys Smile the terminikonolgy helped a lot too.

I'll pull them off next week and drop them into a brake shop to see what can be done.

Really warped? Question

Usually 'warped' rotors are just due to resin buildup on the rotors. Can be emeried off or a few solid applications of the brakes will suffice. Also certain pad types are prone to dumping resin on rotors *looks in the direction EBC Green stuff*.

They are pretty warped! If rolling slowly with moderate pressure on the peddal you can feel it slowly sinking down & up. Also up on jack stands when I turn the rotor I can feel it getting tighter.

I brought the brake setup secondhand and it's always been like it. Just been putting up with it but thought it was about time I sorted it out.

Pulsing could still be due to resin.

Before you get too carried away, check for runoff with a dial indicator. Try mounting the rotor in a different position relative to the hub as this may solve most of your runoff issues (if you have any).

Otherwise machine away. Smile

Yes, and much more then most will let you, because the minimum thickness is set by lawyers, not engineers. a thin drum is risky since you're trying to expand it, but a disk/rotor isn't dangerous until it's super thin because it's being compressed.
i think those "minimums" are almost twice what they can be.

i've never seen any "resin" that had the same symptoms and/or didn't disappear when used a little.

Also, try the e-brake! it may be your rears!

Article on the myth of warped rotors.

http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/warped_rotors_ myth.htm

It would be easy for me to pass off my badly vibrating brakes as 'warped' instead of admitting that I didn't tighten up one of my front wheels properly and it stuffed the rotor.. Embarassed

Tim.
