Car won't start, any ideas?

Hi Guys,
I had my car at a friends house getting some panel beating done. I went to pick the car up yesterday and my mate tells me he had trouble starting it, so he left it alone for me to look at.
The problem is that car will not start. The engine turns but it appears it's not getting the required fuel to ignite. My relays are good, fuel pump I've yet to check however I'm thinking that it may have something to do with the immobilizer.
I tried turning the alarm off using the key on the alarm horn. That did nothing to fix the problem. I then switched the alarm back on, same problem, except now the alarm was now completely dead, key less entry stopped working all together.
Does this sound like it may be something to do with the alarm? The car itself has not had/shown any mechanical problems of any sort previously.
Do alarms with the on/off switches located on the alarm horn have a secondary switch for the immobilizer?
Any comments/suggestions appreciated.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that he did some welding with the panel beating. He attached something to the battery to stop it from shorting any car circuitry etc. However, I'm assuming the alarm runs on a separate circuit, so maybe the welding could have damaged it???

sound likes something that recently happened to me, my battery was completly buggered, so i ended up getting a new one and it works great now, my suggestion is probably try using battery jumper leads with another car or one of those generated ones and see if your car will start up with that, if it starts up no worries then most likly it'll be your battery.
maybe borrow a spare battery from someone else and try it and see how you go, it might be the battery some how got damaged from the welding.

You've checked spark? There are only really two things that it can be lol, fuel and spark. One of them must be missing.
As to the welding, I've heard its a good idea to remove the ECU when welding, I don't think they like huge amounts of current being shoved up the grounds on them... (aka welding)...the ecu might be catus...

Pull one of the plugs and ground it to the motor and check for spark. If your not getting spark its most likely either the coils phucked or worst case would be the ECU.
But yeah any welding done on any car should at least have the grounding strap on the battery disconnected.

Check the fuses for the alarm/ immobilizer. It could be something this simple as you said the keyless entry isn't working. The key switch on the siren normally only cuts out the siren but doesn't disable the immobilizer AFAIK.
To find the fuses look under the dash for the alarm module and follow the wiring. Some alarms have the module built into the siren as well so just follow the wiring from the siren to find fuses.

OK thanks mate.
If I end up having to disable the whole alarm, how do I go about disabling the immobiliser, assuming that it's been tripped?

If you have to disable the whole alarm you will have to bypass the immobilizer. To do this follow the alarm wiring and find where the the vehicle wiring has been cut. Then just rejoin these wires together.
Before you do this check the fuses. Also check if the remote for the alarm is working. If you have a spare remote at home, try it to see if the alarm turns on and off with it. There may also be an overide switch somewhere, usually under the dash.
Do you have the owners manual for the alarm. If so have a read.

Why don't you check fuel and spark and get back to us
If you've got fuel pressure but no injector signal it'd almost have to be the ECU.
If you've got no spark it could be a number of things....

If the engine turns over then it's likely the immobiliser is OK, I doubt one relay would go and not the others... Unless of course it's not hooked up to the starter at all which is unlikely.
I too would be checking fuel and spark.

I tried a few things today. Spark is OK, relays all good, alarm is now OK (blown fuse replaced).
As far as fuel is concerned, I had a mate check to see if the pump was doing anything when turning key to ON position. We both had a listen and are sure it's doing something. I removed the fuel pump fuse, and it did not make any noises. All was OK when fuel pump fuse was put back in (as it made noise with key in ON position).
Battery has to be OK, headlights switch on etc.
Apexi ecu gives readout through hand controller, I've been told that if it was the ecu that was gone the car should not even start, and controller should not give readout of anything.
I'm having the standard ECU put in tommorrow to grab some diagnostic codes.
Couldnt quite figure out how to do a fuel pressure test.
Suggestions/ideas?

Bit of a long shot but check your timing belt.

Had some fuel put into it this morning and now the car starts. However, it's only running 2 cylinders, the car sounds like a lawn mower. So the ecu is OK. Fuel pump is seems to be getting fuel out just fine.
I've been advised to check all spark plugs and leads, and distributor.
Does this sound like I'm on the right track? Any ideas?

If 2 cylinders arent working the odds are its one of those. Start from checking ur plugs to checkin ur leads and then the distributor.
