Can't help you with partial throttle openings.
In a race trim about 14º to 18º advance at idle. About 32º of total max advance by 3500-3700rpm. All this with wide open throttle. (This was just a very rough guide indeed.)

Less 'racy' cam and street tune benefits from having partial throttle opening ignition management sorted out. Makes more power, is more economical, engine does not hesitate to throttle usage.

Have the problems sorted out on a chassis dyno. Even if they cannot tune it right, they should be able to tell you just how many degrees your ignition is off from ideal advance prorgression curve. (This in a case you have say a distributor dizzy bolted on).

This is kinda reversed engineering, but it's one way to get a grip on problems your engine has.
At least after such dyno session you have the answers to make your engine work well.

i have had it on a dyno, tuned nicely... runs like a dream but just doesnt seem like it's goin well. i have been munched left right and centre by standard corollas and sprinters. my engine is fairly fresh, rebuilt about 5k ago.

when i check out the map it's at around the 27 mark at around 3500, hits 30 degrees at 5000 and 32 at 6500.

just doesnt seem like it pulls down low, like a normal 4age. and doesnt rev out nicely, well not quickly like usuall,

cheers

What diff are you using in your car, maybe that's why it feels a tad breathless?

Also, with my turbo GZE, I found the only way to get any satisfaction with the timing was to do it myself. It starts off around 22, works up to 40 at cruise, and backs off to about 27 under full boost, seems to work fairly well. (remember thats a low comp motor running on LPG though!)

standard diff...

the whole reason i'm askin is because last night, my brother and i drove around for a while and put some more ignition throughout the map. it went better, felt stronger... drove home from gosford(thats where my bro lives) and as soon as i got of the freeway it felt like crap, and when i take off i really need to give a rev to make an power, seem to me like i;ve done the head gasket it as compression is down on the 2,3 cylinders.

as we were driving it while tuning we couldn't hear any pingin at all, and on the freeway was sittin at 4k most of the way, bizarre....

the only thing i can think off is that it wasnt a genuine toyota gasket, i've heard people have problems ith head gaskets which aren't toyota... so i'm gonna try that next,

i can stil drive it and there no knocks or anything, but it goes even crapper... .hehe
