T50, worn bearing? Fri, 25 March 2005 14:26 Go to next message
Hi

My 22splines T50 box has some slack in the bearing wich holds the axle going to the clutch/flywheel.

is it normalt that this is not totally tight? i can move the axle a little bit in all directions, its not much but its not all tight either.

is this okay, or should i change the bearing, if its possible?

thanks for any answers

Very Happy

how much is "a little bit in all directions"????
2mm/1/8in is about normal and won't be much less then that with a new bearing.
what's the pilot/spigot bearing like/condition? that is what supports the other end.
before it was removed, was there any whirring noise when idling in neutral, that disappeared when the clutch was disengaged/pedal on the floor? that is when that bearing(and the lay/counter shaft) will make noise when wornout. don't confuse its noise with release/throwout bearing noise.

it's called the transmission's input or first motion shaft.

on the end of the shaft i would say it moves from buttom to top ca 1cm, i dont know about if it makes noise or the pilot bearing since i never used the box yet and i havent seen the engine it came from..

if the bearing is worn out, is it easy to change?

thanks again
