fuel sender in elfin Sat, 26 March 2005 07:15 Go to next message
at college we are building a elfin clubman for targa tas and trackdays but the fuel gauge says full when its empty. now being logical you would swap the wires over... well that just makes it worse it goes further past full than it did before. if you are wondering what this has to do with toyotas, well nothing apart from the engine.

whats the problem?

It sounds like the sender and gauge are mis-matched. Fuel level senders are simply a potentiometer attached to a lever with a float on the end, and a fuel gauge is an ohmmeter which measures the resistance of the sender. Some senders increase resistance as the fuel level goes down, others decrease resistance. Obviously you need a gauge and a sender which work the same way.

Either that or you somehow managed to install the sender upside-down. Laughing
