2 Nissan T25G for 400rwhp 1j build [budget twins upgrade] Sun, 27 March 2005 13:38 Go to next message
These turbos are older style sleeve bearing turbos that come stock on Nissan SR20 2 litre motor in a few different cars.

Feel free to jump in and add info about the turbos or your opinion on what would do the job better etc as I searched but could not get much.

I found that they are good for around 230rwhp when pushed on an SR20 so figure two will do the 480 at the crank that I am looking for.I guess this will equate to approx 400 rwhp with 2 on the 1j.

To look at,the t25g turbo inlet and outlets do look 20% bigger than the stock ct12a's which I cold not find the specs of,guess no-one cares. My simplistic maths says that if the turbo is supplying your power needs at or close to its "top end" then bottom end will be there sooner = less lag.

Obviously if I had plenty of spare cash I would have purchased
1.HKS T3G or similiar[3 grand complete kit s/hand from Lew]
2.Garret T 25 GT ball bearing turbo [rated at 320hp ee 3 grand new from horsepowerinabox.com for two]

The T25G is .64 exh and .80 inlet-it is recognised apart from its smaller sibling [the t25 from s18] by its bolt on style flange faces on inlet and outlet.[the t25 has push on and clamp style fittings]

The 320hp Garretts are.60exh and .62 inlet [gt25]obviously their large power rating comes with the ability to push higher boost due to modern design and ball bearing construction allowing them to spin faster without self destructing.
{world-its time to push the button}
There are a pair of these on nissansilvia.com for approx $2200 with a new warranty. The t25G's are sometimes available for $300 or less s/hand in good cond.I think they offer very good value as a budget upgrade if you dont mind getting your hands dirty.

So,time will tell if I can get the 400 at the wheels but I have bet with my hard earned that its possible.Open for discussion at this stage.
Cheers.Pete. Smile

I like the idea! Seems like you've been doing some good researching too!

I guess its one of those things that we have to wait for someone to give it a try, on paper it sounds and looks like a good match. The price is also very cheap for an upgrade of that magnitude! not to mention the versatility that will come from having t25 flanges if you decide to further later....

good luck with it!

Cheers
Wilbo

Wilbo, yeah thanks for pointing me in this direction also thanks to JAZE and Clint [CLG] for answering pm's on the subject.Cant do much without a little help and info here and there. Smile
I did look at the later model ball bearing T28 but they are sought after for nissan upgrades and more expensive, also prolly more like 500+ at the wheels.Maybe next time! Very Happy

would you set these up like stock (exhaust facing each other)?

also, i think your real costs will come from the fittings needed to connect oil/water to the housings?

you could ask exotic exhausts for a price to make a manifold? fwiw, my custom manifold for the 18R turbo was $500 - dump pipe was $150.

i was going to ask whether cordia turbos might also be suitable (they do seem to have very large exhaust turbine) but they're an even older design. the intakes on them rae pretty small too (not much larger than CT12s from a 1G).

Not sure how I will set them up,however they fit best.I plan to use the stock 1j cast manifold and fit a very short adapter,we will see.Whatever is required i will make here at home.Fun.Fun,Fun.
As far as I know a set of oil and water lines cost close to $120 bucks. Cheers.Pete. Smile
