Recommended Tunning Places in Vic Sun, 27 March 2005 23:15 Go to next message
Hi all,

Gave a search first but couldn't find too much in Victoria/Melbourne.

I am looking for a good place to Tune my engine (4AGZE). Making a bad note from the exhaust and a little bit of backfiring.

Could anyone recommend a good place in Victoria?

Cheers

If it has the stock ECU there really isn't much "tuning" you can do. It'd be more problem finding and fixing with sensors or the wiring or something.

If you have aftermarket management then just look for who distributes that brand and go and talk to them. You'll soon work out if they have any idea about ZEs.

In any case I have had very good experience with Speed Technology/EFI hardware on Monomeeth Pde in Mitcham. One of the guys there had a ZE Kombi van.

Hey thanks Hen,

Yeh, its E with the black ae92. the ZE is seeming to give me a couple of problems. Im getting the fuel pump checked firstly as i think that is where the main problem is coming from.

At the same time, it is giving a little backfire every now and then and not sounding too good.

Hopefully after getting the fuel pump issue sorted out, i might give Speed Technology a go and see whats going on.

Hopefully irs nothing too major and just as you said, something to do with the sensors or wiring because it does have the standard ECU. But in anycase, thank for the recommendation.

Cheers

Hey Ben,

Yeh, i changed spark plug no more that 3000km's ago. I got NGK copper ones but i'm going straight to denso iridium ones next service (in 2000km more).

Not exactly sure if it is the plugs, but i wouldnt say so just due to the fact they were recently changed.

Ill head off the Toyospares tomorrow and see what they have to say and ill keep all updated.

Cheers guys

Hey Aust162,

Did you get your car tuned from there?

If so:-
why did you tune your car?
what was wrong with it?
did you have the standard ECU?

Cheers

Hey E - It will more than likely be your injectors. Most places will clean them for $25 each if you take them off and take it to them. Amberley Autos in Dandy are very good.

-Pro,

Yeh i have heard alot of Amberley Autos. They must be a fairly good place espically given their reputation of what they do (got many referrals to go their for full custom exhaust systems - hopefully mine will be to come soon). I will go either and/or toyospares hopefully tomorrow and get some sort of idea what is behind it.

It didnt seem too bad of a problem when i first purchased the car (as a new full tank of petrol had no signs of the problem), but seemed to have got worse, therefore your suggestion on the injectors could well be a valid one Pro.

Once putting some foot on the "gas" gives it a bit of a jerky and a feeling of the petrol cutting out and then kicking back in (quite a big jerk). Hopefully -touch wood- its not too big of an issue.

Really not too sure if it is a fuel pump issue. Just thought that was behind it. But since it got a little worse after a few months since getting the car, i dont think that is the cause behind it anymore.

Possibly just general wear and tear of injectors(??).

Thanks anyways Pro,

Cheers

-E

E, u can save the trouble of removing ur injectors. i think if u remove them u canot expose it for too long or something like that.

there is a stetoscope thingy, something like the one doctors use to hear ur heartbeat but this is for injector pulse. not sure what its called but i would suggest u try to borrow that thing frm somewhere to check if ur injectors are fine or not before removing them.

i think its more likely to be the pump rather than injector dude. but dont take my word for it

Ben - Thanks for the help mate, will look into that once i change the plugs around to the denso iridiums ones (thank god for ebay)

Just popped over to toyospares before and Matt and Troy were helpful as ever. Matt took it for a drive with me and while giving me endless words of wisdom, he definatly said it was a injection issue. He said firstly i should get iridium or platinum plugs instead of the coppers ones currently on them and also check the ignition leads and the ignition pack.

I'll give them all a througher run through hopefully this week and get my plugs changed as soon as they come in.

Matt did tell me it definatly was not a fuel pump issue, which i previously thought it was. Bladdy happy that he ruled out the fuel pump because that could have really dug into my wallet!!

Pramodh, i think you had a fair idea of what was wrong with it just from what i wrote up and your previous experience with the car, so thanks for your advice too!

Also, i did go to Amberley Autos in Dandy; even though they seemed professional as ever (and the chick at the counter - service manager - was hot as Shocked Shocked = go there just for a peep!!) they wanted $75 for a tuning and look through before they even got in the car!

Pretty disappointed with them, but it was probably due to them being pretty busy.

Cool Cool Thumbs up to Toyospares Cool Cool

Cheers guys

-E

the car have a factory sw20 ecu.its going back tomorrow around lunch time for further tinkering,so u might see my car there Smile
