I ordered a set of new engine mounts for the TA22 today and was surprised to learn that they are different for the Auto and the manual.
Does anyone know why this is and what the differences are ?

In what way were they different? I would have thought they would be standard for both , maybe the only exception I can think of is that the auto would tend to vibrate and have less torque twist than a manual and so therefore not need as much reinforcing??? probly totally down the wrong track of thinking

Hi Rod, as far as i know they are the same. My car has been both auto and manual and the mounts were identical. Only the gearbox mounts and crossmembers are different! i have two mounts here if you want them, for free! (or swap for that bumper!!!) Cheers Jamie.

Rod - Where did you get your engine mounts from? I need a new rear gearbox mount for my rolla and Toyota want $135!!!!!! I don't know where you can get them cheaper without going second hand.

Jamie thanks for the offer on the engine mounts I have a few second hand ones here myself but With the new engine I'll feel a lot happier with new rubber.
The Auto and Manual mounts have a different part number so there has to be a difference. I have one theory but it could be way off base. On top of some TA22 mounts there is an additional steel plate. I am wondering if that comes with one of the mounts. I'm further assuming this plate is only on the manual due to the increased load when applying the loud peddle. Further supporting that theory would be that without the top plate the engine will sit slightly lower giving more transmission tunnel room for an Auto.
Just a guess tho ??
I order Auto ones so I can let you know what there like but I couldn't afford to order a set of Manual ones as well
As for aftermarket rubber. Stores like Repco and Supercheap Auto can get some of the more common bits.
