i know its not a toyota, but evey1 here knows alot about engine conversions!!
is it possible to get a RWC donw in victoria if the car has had an engine swap?
the car i want to buy doesnt have a RWC, and it is an 1988 TX3 4WD, with the 1.8 bpt familia engine in it. so its not just a normal engine swap, but a conversion.
do i need an engineers certificate to get this roadworthy??
thanks guys

Call Vicroads 13 11 71 (or something like that) and talk to a bunch of local mechanics who do roadworthies. They're the only people whose opinions count in such matters.

you might not have to get an engineers for that car.did it have the b6t or something in it before?if the engine numbers are similar i might be ok.you might have problems with modifications.eg.i/c,pod filter, boost contoller etc..
ask the people on www.fordlaser.com

Unless that chassis was available in Australia with that motor, you legally need to get it engineered. You will probably get a RWC somewhere, but RWC's and engineering are different. Have had correspondence with Vicroads in the past that an AE86 with a totally standard 4AGE factory setup will require engineering as it wasn't an option here.
I await the howling which may now descend about mystery low volume imports by Toyota etc etc. Whatever, that is what Vicroads informed me.

^^^^ That is exactly what I was told by Vicroads on one occasion also.
I have also had discussions with a local mechanic who has said he would give a roadworthy for an engine swap as long as all original emission controls were in place.
My opinion is that it comes down to Vicroads in the end so believe them, but the moral of the story is that no-one really knows.
