4A-C seriosly bad fuel consumption...

Did a search and couldn't find any info on how to fix the problem...
When I first got the car I was getting 400+ kms to a tank with reasonably hard driving,
I sucked heaps of crap thru the carby a long time ago so it wouldnt idle, one of my friends dads decided to just dial the idle screw up heaps so it idled at 2.5k then i took it to get fixed properly and it ran nicely but only giving me about 250kms to a tank, then i sucked shit in again.
This time me and a mate cleaned out the carby ourselves (well he did it all but yeah it got done) and now I have screwed in the mixture screw all the way in and played with the idle screw so the engine is only just running (so if i screw in the mixture screw one more bit it will cut out) the mixture screw was very far out and exhaust used to stink like fuel now the fuel smell isnt as bad, but I am still only getting 200-250kms from a tank! I DONT GET IT!!!
What am I supposed to do to get my fuel consumption back to 400+ kms form a tank???
Constantly buying fuel is really eating up my 4AGE savings!!!
Someone PLEASE give me some advice??? has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?
Thanks for any advice and help!

Check your timing first.
Bad timing = no power, which leads to a lot of heavy footed driving.
If thats fine, look into getting the carby tuned/rebuilt.

my timing was waaay out on my old 4AC, and it used to chew fuel like an absolute bitch haha!!
the timing belt jumped one day, and I drove it like that for a few days, with the timing advanced all the way to hell, I then got the belt fixed one day by a dumb-fuck mechanic, and the timing was still up the shit and way out, I set it at a pretty good point so the car would run ok, but it never felt the same after that, just felt a bit sluggish and like the motor was always cold, the way I used to drive the Sprinter didnt help either, I was just about to start my 4AGTE conversion so I was trying to blow up the 4AC, but yeh the timing will affect the fuel consumption for sure, I was getting shit all km's out of a full tank just before I ripped the 4AC out lol.

check the electrics, especially the points. Followed by leads and distributer cap.

I used to get 500k to 40L in my 4ac. I then cleaned the carby and I put the hollow bolt that supplies the vacuum to the power piston in the wrong way. my economy went to shit, as the power piston was on all the time. untill I paid 300 bucks for a mechanic to try to fix it, but he was an idiot and didn't. SO i advise to check all your vacuum hoses to make sure that you aren't sucking excess fuel instead of air. I also learnt not to fuck with the factory sealed mixture screw.
But now I have a 4age so I am looking foward to the economy coming back!
hope it helps

If your cam and ignition timing is OK then it may be a blocked emulsion tube this allows the fuel to be properly atomized.
You can often clear them by removing the air filter, start the engine, hold the revs at 3-3500rpm then blocking the intake completely with a large folded rag you choke the engine. Just before the engine dies remove the rag and allow it to build up revs again and repeat the process a couple of times if this doesn't work you may have to remove the emulsion tubes to clean them.

i filled my car all the way to the top just to see how much i get out....
so far i've driven for 375km 98% city driving and occassionally gettin the revs up to around 5000rpm, and the fuel light has just started to switch on....so im guessing around the 400km mark for me
Not too bad...
