I know what most of you think about Hondas but think an exception can be made for their two wheelers!
1992 Honda CBR 250 RR. Imported in 1998.
250cc 4 Stroke (learner legal)
Pretty much the quickest bike you can ride on your L's.
Mechanically excellent.
VTR 1000 SP1 custom paint job. Some cracks in fairings. Still looks great.
Good Tyres
Rego till January
Great bike to learn on or an economical way to travel to work. (200+k's to a tank, around $10 to fill up with PULP)
$3700

Yes you can ride a 650 on your L's or P's now, I'd hardly call them sporty though..... The same power to weight ratio applies as before though.
No more than 150kw/tonne. A CBR is right on this limit.
This is why you can't ride an RGV or RS250 on your L's as they make more than 150Kw/Tonne.
Most of the Learner Legal 650's wouldn't stand a chance against a CBR250RR.
They introduced this so FATTIES could ride a bike on their L's before they bought their harley.
I'm a jap supported in both cars and bikes....nothing better!!!.

looks like WA gets the rough end of the stick...
150kW/tonne for NSW/ACT. my 800 is learner legal! shouting my sister her L's course shortly so she can use it! i think this method of restriction is slightly misguided though, as it doesn't consider torque which can get you into plenty of trouble... just buy the biggest, non-revvy twin you can find... heh heh... someone mentioned Harley?
and if a bike isn't on the list but the sums work, then you can apply to have the list amended.
ACT used to kick ass... there were no restrictions upon the bike you could ride right from the start, and you could renew your L's an unlimited number of times!! hence i had my L's for 5 years. still has the best roads for ripping it up in Oz though!

well... thank goodness i'm not licensed in NSW!!
there is some disparity in legislation amongst states (the bodies who administrate our vehicle licenses, though this is changing), hence the multiple links i posted.
in Kev's case, he is subject to the WA rules, which is based on the engine capacity. and as well as the </>260cc categories, WA also seems to endorse the much admired <100cc moped class. yee hah.
the ACT link above also has its relative list of approved bikes... Harley, Motoguzzi, Kwaka 1500's and Virago 1100... all for the first-timer!

Yeah we've got a moped class, and i *think* anyone with a car license can just hop on one and go
the 250cc cutoff limit isnt necessarily a bad thing because as you say theres a torque difference that'll let you pull harder.
I'm still on my 250 license, but ah well, my RGV isnt that bad

I was the other way around.
I learned bike first. And when I first time learn to drive a car, after 3 hours of practise. My legs were shaking, and I still can't drive in home.
But anyway, I managed to drive to City from Epping 3 days later.
So I'm full in my Bike license, but still P2 for my car.
