Hey guys my mate has a pair of watanabe or watanabe looka likes on his ae92 trueno they are 14's with 195 width. But next to the spoke on the centerpiece there is a symbol which says vs on it. What do you reckon are they genuine or just some rip offs?

Firstly ae92 trueno looks very nice!! I have a levin, and i will try get a pic of a trueno for you. If you want to have a look at a ae92 levin, check mine. It is in the victoria post in i think some Fuji BBQ thread. Its the black one and there is also a white one there.
However there is a owner of a ae92 trueno on twincam.org...
Secondly, Im almost 99% sure that genuine watanabe wheels near the centerpiece have its watanabe logo on it, not a vs symbol. The watanabe symbol is pretty much a big circle with 3 little circles inside of it (http://www.rs-watanabe.co.jp/index2.htm) so it's probably an imitation.
There are soo many branded imitation of the superlight wheels thats its not even funny. Being a timeless wheel, many companies have made copies - i also think watanabes are the lightest of the lot although many of its imitations are fairly light too!
Their's my 2cents
Cheers

they are all just copies or versions of the english Minilite wheel made by Tech_Del corporation in UK, since 1964. I'm chjasing a pair of "copies", 15 x 6 or 6.5", 100 to 110mm backspace suit 113 PCD.

ohhhh nice trueno...and with a GZE in it too
Mine is fairly standard with the usually first mods.
Exhaust
Filter
14" Superlight Watanabe-type Champane wheels
The exhaust is press bent, and im looking to get a custom mandrel bent exhaust with a high flow cat convertor.
Ever since i bought the car, it has been serviced pretty religously every 5000kms with Castrol Formula R oil and toyota oil filters. Really does run like a dream for something that is 15year+ old.
No idea what the 0-100 and 0-400 speeds/times are but the car is 100% fun. Very direct handling really makes it a joy to drive in the twisty's! Also, weighing up at only 980kg's, giving out 165ps standard + being supercharged gives it super quick acceleration.
Its nothing like some super car which will drag modded r33's off the lights, but its something different, and good fun to drive! Being so cheap under the 15year old import rule, for that price its really hard to find anything better (fuel economy is soooo good ).
I have a whole list of modifications to do, but as always money is the issue. The likes of bigger/front mount cooler, aftermarket ECU, bigger pulley kit etc. would be awesome down the track.
What modifications does your mate's trueno have?
yeh definatly email me some pics!!
Have you seen my car before?
Did you check out the thread i referred you to?

Makeshift water cooling its hook up to the windscreen jets so when u push the nob for wind screen water it goes to the intercooler and also you can c the Jasma extractors which goto a 2.5 inch system all the way through
Its also got a kakimoto computer, short shift kit, some sort of a/m gearbox GAB sway-bars, GAB suspension and a 10pound boost pulley.

-eatav8, thats fresh man!
In regards to the Makeshift water cooling, where does the water go? ontop of the cooler?
Extractors look very nice man, i envy that!
Also, that is a very very clean and aftermarket looking intercooler cover! is it aftermarket? if so, where did you get it from?
Kakimoto computer? hmm, havent heard of it? can you play around with it at all?
Also, was the 10pound pulley kit bought yourself or imported like that?
Heehee, funny how this topic was once on Watanabe wheels

bubbles wrote on Wed, 30 March 2005 12:01 | a bit off the topic, watanabe R type 8spoke center are made of magnesium.
Magnesium, just like ferrari mags have a expired date, usually 3 to 5 years.
Better to stick with Alluminium, alloy types
