silly idea really.... Tue, 29 March 2005 06:58 Go to next message
hey guys,
does ne one know where i could get a 3hp horizontal motor bored n stroked? ahh somewhere eastern subs of melbourne

also what would u think of attaching a smog pump (pump that pumps air into exhaust for emitions stuff - lol) to the motor to give it more power?

i also had contact with guy in states who has made a efi system for one du u reckon its worth doing just for kicks for a home made go kart???

i know all this is a stupid idea but ha i want to do it n just want to know what people think!

cheers

dunno bout your other Q's, but by smog pump, do you mean one of those air pumps like on old holdens they use to reduce emissions? if yes, i dont think it would pump enough air for the engine to consume, meaning it would restrict it rather than give it 'boost'.

hair driers flow alot of air, but you wouldnt put one of them on a engine. it may seem like its flowing alot of air, but how much does an engine need? i may be wrong tho, but i dont think it would work.

im sure you could get your engine bored, stroked not as likely.

thanx for the name ill have to get in contact with them and see wat happpens....

but yeah just want extra gunt outa the thing coz im not the lightest of people n my rear axle weighs a tonne.....
but yeah i thbought about using a 2:1 ratio for the compressor but im not sure if it will lag the motor too much a guy in the states had it at 4:1 n the motor would just crank over then die... so ne ideas on what ratio would be good?

I wonder how one of these pumps would go on my 40cc scooter? I know that usually 2 stroke engines don't lend themself well to conventional superchargers normally

ok i was wrong, and im glad Smile this smog pump your talking about, is it like a conventional air pump? i wonder how much hp they would cost to run.

55gas, what was the engien used with? ive thought about toying with mower/sniper motors on various things, would be good to see some pics/articles on projects people have done.

yeah u could say its a conventional air pump! just pump thats pumps air into the exhaust to lower emitions (was the thing to do for the old cars)

ill be doing some work on this smog pump idea to another motor in the next couple weeks.

The engine was an old 165 2 stroke victa and the pump came from a cresida a fan belt ran off a pulley on top of the cooling fins drawing through the original carby.

get hold of an old petrol blower vac. you know those ones made by stihl? a mate at tafe rekons he did it to a postie and got the carby to run ritch to compensate. dunno how but. lol then you dont have to worry about it draining power from the motor cause itll have its own.

you could always try a compressed air bottle.
like a dive one.
just rig it up like a nos bottle.
it will only give you a burst but hay.worth shot...

but shuld b good ill hopefully get some pics tomoz

hahaha...nice

i went an got me a MX62 smog pump today. i put it in the lathe @ 1250 rpm and there was a decent amount of air coming out, plenty of pressure anyway....until it flung out Embarassed

at the ratio you got, there would be heaps of air

nice work

man theres a fair amount.... but think smog is bit dodgy... makes clunking sounds (does urs?)

i prob had it running on a air con unit Laughing a 2hp electric motor n i connected to that too test n it had alot of air.... also when had it connected to motor n just seeing how much air it made it was enough to push ur air a fair way make (my hair was test rig - long hair)

mate is making a new intake for it because it has leaks n wasnt running properly so ill find out tomoz wat has happened to it...
