7k-e replacement Tue, 29 March 2005 07:59 Go to next message
Hi all. I've searched high and low for a solution for my Townace SBV. It's a slug. I'm keen on finding a motor I can swap in to it that's going to give the best power v's headaches. I know the Spacia used the 3S-FE and I'm wondering if the 3S-GE would bolt in assuming I got a later rwd motor? I'd need to change the diff ratio for anything I did but aside from that I'm trying to minimise the time it's off the road. Any ideas would be welcome as I can't find any info on making the things go any quicker.

change camshaft duration perhaps?
if you do, you may need to increase injector size etc... i'm nearly maxing out 7KE injectors on my 4K...

how big is the engine bay? how recent a motor do you have to use?
3S is not much more torque but a lot more revs, and a 3SGTE would make it more lively.

sounds like an interesting project!!

(and can i have the 7KE when you are done with it;) )

LOL, i would only be hoarding it for a couple of years Wink

OT: i'm still very interested in doing a direct comparison between 4KE and 7KE gear..

on topic... turbo? SC14?? open up the combustion chambers a bit to lower CR.. the rods may be weak link tho.

I'm figuring it'd be easier or quicker to just throw a bigger engine in. There's a reasonable amount of room under the bonnet and the firewall seems to have a cut out for the 3S-FE head so that's why I liked the idea of being able to bolt in the 3S-GE. Assuming that's possible with the standard five speed and mounts etc.

As for what I do with the 7K I'll wait and see if it's a happening thing first Wink

well, 2L is not much bigger than 1.8L, although the 3SGE and 7KE are years apart in technology and ability.

If you are not averse to a turbo, i'd try for the 3SGTE first up (there are threads regarding issues with RWD 3SG at the moment), or at the very least go 3SGE with plans for the turbo at a later date.

the 1GGTE may also fit but is heavier etc etc..

what does the townace weigh? does it have a 70x70x70cm hole in the engine bay (1UZ Razz )?

yeah yeah, do the conversion Razz Wink

A turbo would be a tight squeeze and just going from 60 to 112kw would make it a fair bit quicker so I'll stick to the slackest option possible Smile
