18rg turbo into sa63. anyone done it? need some help Tue, 29 March 2005 11:52 Go to next message
im in the middle of putting my 18rg turbo into a sa63 celica. now im having trouble sorting out how to do engine mounts. the crossmember in the sa63 seems to be alot wider then the 18rg mounts and also set further back. so far what ive done is 10mm thick steal plate bolted to the mounts on the sa63 crossmember going foward 300mm to allow the 18rg mounts to line up on (plus some extra). on the 18rg steel mounts one is small and one is long. ive removed the small one and put a long one on and also used the 2s rubber mounts as there thisker then the 18rg ones...but ive still got about 10mm of gap i need to take up. id rather not use a thicker steal as ive already made these ones. is it possible and safe to spacer the mounts in any of the positions??? or is there any other ideas??

Will RA65 or even RA60 bits work?

Just a bit of info, hopefully someone else can confirm.
I think there are two different mounting setups for the 18RG block, my injected motor has three holes for engine mounts and my carby one only two forward mounts. In the rearward holes the mounts sit in a much better position, and this is how it was attached to the RA63 it was pulled from and how it was setup in my KE70. Big problem I have now is my carby motor won't swap over. Sad

This pic might help -

Just use an RA60/65 crossmember and save yourself the dicking around trying to adapt stuff.

id rather not have to find a newcrossmember and pay a arm and a leg for it if i dont need to. i thought about using the 2 holes closer to the middle of the engine but i thought it might make it front heavy and cause damage as all the weight is supported to the middle/back. ive made the plates up from the old mounts and decided to lower the engine in the bay a bit more and now theres no need for any extra spacers. also i cannot just use the ra60/65 xmember as i would still need to adapt wouldnt i. considering i know someone who had to adapt his mounts much the same as me when he put a rg into a ra65. i assumed they had the same xmembner as they are basically the same car except engine.

It wouldn't cost an arm and a leg and would be a piece of piss to find.

still requires custom mounts of some kind due to it being a different crossmember to what the engine needs..doesnt really matter any more as ive made up the mounts now.

How is it a different crossmember to what the engine needs? It is an R-series is it not? Or are you talking about the sump?

it is a r series engine but 21/22r and 18r bolt up differently. the engine mounts are in different positions.

theres not alot of info apart from what people have said about there own conversion. as for mine its up for sale now. it runs into alot of money to build a good one and its always gonna be a never ending thing. just do a search to find some answers
