2T/3T Hybrid. How to Identify one?

OK, I know a lot of threads have been made on 2T/3T hybrids and how to build them. I googled toymods and I think I read most of them but my questions were not answered so here goes.
A couple of years ago I purchased a corolla with a 2TG fitted.
At the time I had never heard of these motors. The guy I bought the car off said the engine was a 2lt. After finding this site and reading I found that 2TG's were 1.6lt but can be stroked and bored to 2lt (aka 2T/3T hybrid). Now I want to know if I've got a hybrid or if the guy was talking out of his ass.
So if I pulled this engine apart what would I look for that would tell me it is a hybrid. I know the 3T had longer stroke and that the bore would need to be increased to get to 2lt and I found Rod's page listing the specs of each motor. Would just measuring bore and stroke confirm this or are there any part no.s/ identifying marks on the 3T crank to look for. I also read that 3T pistons should be used and need to be fly cut. How would I tell if it has 3T pistons and is it possible to use pistons that haven't been fly cut.
The engine is marked on the front as 2TGEU and has an 88260 (I think, will have to check) head. I refer to it as a 2TG though, as it has had Norbie's favourite conversion done (aka efi swapped for twin solex's ) .
Any help on this subject or links to relevant threads would be appreciated.
Thanks
Brad

you could look for custom valve reliefs done into the pistons. i don't think that they look very factory

First thing I would do is get a length of plastic rod or even a welding rod. Pull out a spark plug and drop it on to the piston, turn the motor over by hand marking the highest and lowest points as the rod goes up and down. Measure this distance and you will know which crank you have. Its a start to work out if the previous owner was bullshitting.

Never thought of checking it like that, thanks.
The engine is out of the car so stripping it down is not a problem.

ive got a hybrid engine sitting up the driveway if you need to compare anything, although, as long as it doesnt require more than a point and snap a pic effort

Thanks for the offer.
I was really only wondering if there was a specific marking or part number on the 3T cranks so that when I strip my motor down I would know for certain what it has, but I think I will just rely on measuring the bore and stroke.
