emissions stuff Wed, 30 March 2005 05:45 Go to next message
My dad always told me that all the emissions crap that they put on carby engines in the 80's robbed the engine of heaps of power. I got a 4ac in a 1986 corolla ae82 as a thrashbox and just wondering what stuff is safe to block off/remove without getting rid of stuff needed to make the engine run. Never before in my life have i seen an engine bay with so may rubber hoses going everywhere.

The "emissions stuff" that robbed most of the power was stuff like low compression, short duration cams, swirl-port combustion chambers... things that are pretty hard to change. The external bolt-on stuff like EGR makes next to no difference to the power output.
