brake upgrade? Mon, 11 November 2002 03:54 Go to next message
hi all,

i would appreciate if i could ask a question to those who have upgraded to corona/peugeot/hilux front susp.

how much do you have to file out from the hilux calipers? Does this significantly weaken the caliper? Is it better to have the peugeot disk machined to a smaller diameter? If so, how much smaller?

i assume about $200 each for the disks, $40 each for the struts, $150 for a pair of lowered springs, $40 each for the calipers, $80 for good brake pads!

does this sound alright? (~$800 for excellent brakes)

i will also be upgrading to a 1" master cylinder, and adjustable strut tops... MMMMMmmmmm cant wait!

I didnt have to file any out of the caliper. Runs fine as is!

And as for ur estimations..... mine were more like:

Discs, $110 each.

Calipers $150 each. ...slightly more than $40 mate!

rebuild kit for calipers $50. ...dont forget this bit!

The rest sounds good.

i strongly don't reccomend filing out the calipers. have the discs turned down. 266mm is the correct diameter for this setup, same as the XT130 disc diameter...

here's the costs for my setup...
struts $150
discs (including custom machining) $270
calipers $200(pair)
rebuild kits $50
pads (EBC greenstuff - Mitsubishi GTO) $220
Brake pipes $30
Master cylinder modification (out to 15/16in) $200

thanx heaps guys... ur all so helpful!

yeah the price for the calipers (& the pads) were, well, you could say *underestimated* Rolling Eyes

but i think i will still go ahead with it! Very Happy

dylo, did you use the LN106 calipers? coz everyone else seems to have to machine either the disc or caliper!

Yeah, i will get the caliper rebuild kit, and bugman, i assume i should get the bigger ones, is that right?

also, did you find that it was cheaper to have the master cylinder honed out rather than buying an MA/GA70 master cylinder?

sorry about all the questions, but i want to get it right the first time!

Very Happy

Thanx
Tim
