Quite possibly the 4ac is a non-reduction starter, wheras the 4age ones are reduction type.

Yes, they will fit. But my 4AC one almost died at the thought of cranking my high comp smallport. Simply coudlnt get enough current. And thats on a 120A rated fuse.

my starter motor had been on my 4ac for 170,000ks and is still going strong on my small port and has been on the 4age for a year now, perhaps yur starter motor is shagged?

Probably more the current loss over the 3m ish run of cable from the battery to the starter.
Meh, i have a nice reduction starter (fwd 100kw) in there which works 3000x better.
