As it's RWD, and the manifold hasn't been welded, then it's a T-VIS largeport motor. (The T-VIS badge on the rocker cover should be a giveaway).

If the manifold is welded around the throttle body, it's probably a small port motor.

if the manifold has 8 runners its a large port/TVIS head and most likely an 86kw engine. count the number of vertical ribs on the water pump side of the block. the early 86kw has 3 prominent ribs, the 100kw has 7.

i have the same problem, only my rocker cover has been changed to a supercharged cover and my inlet manifold is custom. Confused do all 100kw motors have 7 ribs on the block?

Have a look at the back of the head behind the inlet manifold, if there is an external oil drain hose, then it's a 100kW motor.

considering its been in a kexx and its difficult to tell the original donor - i believe there are also some 7 rib late 86Kws bigports youd have to keep in mind (thats an MR2 donor, no oil squirters im told).

kehamer if the head is still stock and just the throttle inlet manifold changed to aftermarket, the drain will indeed point to a 100KW. if its a bitzer motor it will be harder to tell. AFAIK all 100Kws came with 7ribs, as i say certain Mr2 donored 86Kws also can come in 7ribs.

btw on bitzer motors if id made one with mine, whacked a smallport head+top end on my block i know it'd confuse people if i chromed my rockers - black and redtop Mr2 7rib block with a smallport topend - it'd look like a 100KW on the outside but wouldnt run like one (lower CR and lacking oilsquirters, going on what ive read for the red+black mr2 blocks).

Cheers
