FWD 4A-GE into TA22. Fri, 01 April 2005 01:29 Go to next message
Hey people, just wondering if you guys can help me out with a bit of a delema.

I have the opportunity to buy an 88 trueno that has been in an accident, and hence is going for a really good price. The engine is in good nice, as is the gearbox etc. It's a silver top, i guessing 16v small port, but could be wrong.

I was just wondering if the fwd engine is much more difficult to put in than the rwd one. Ie, i know the air intake needs changing, and the alternator i think needs to be lifted.

Also, the wiring, will all of this be different, because the articles on toymods say it is quite similar to ta22. Also, i know the mounts need modification, but is the gearbox completely different?, or can that be turned to suit rwd?

What I am thinking is putting in the engine, and getting a g/b and tailshaft from sprinter (if possible). If not, is there anything else that people suggest.
Cheers
Crok.

I've converted 2x FWD 4AGE engines to RWD in AE86's. Not quite the same as TA22 as they pretty much bolt in.. So can only help you a little.

I haven't had problems with the alternator, standard brackets have always worked for me.

You need rwd inlet manifold (or cut n shut yours). rwd exhaust manifold or rwd extractors.

Also you would want engine mounts and brackets from a rwd 4a engine (could just get these from a 4ac ae86).

You'd need a T50 box from a AE86, or maybe you could just get a T50 bellhousing from ae86 and put it on the box in the TA22. Not sure on that one.

Wiring loom.. well the fwd bigport I had was really long and fitted well in rwd format. the smallport 4age the wiring loom was a bit short but I managed to get it to fit.

Hope that helps a bit.

Cheers
Joel
