Have to start by saying thank you to all the people who posted on Toymods... without Toymods theres no way this project would exist.

The reason for starting this project was to learn about cars!
Before buying this shell I knew absolutely nothing about cars, I hadn't even serviced a car, absolutely no mechanical experience. (I'm a 20yr old engineering student btw) So I decided the best way was to build my own!

So far I've done everything on the car myself! Learnt how to weld, (Learnt how to grind and cut metal b4 that haha somthing all of u could do with ur eyes closed prolly) learnt how to paint, and learnt what goes where and how and why from this forum.

It all started when I bought this shell in May 2004...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y85/4agtetrueno/beginning.jpg

Then I got an ae92 levin gtz halfcut...
Now my theory is that if I can take everything apart from the halfcut and put it back together in my car, it should work. So far it's working! Hopefully at the end of 2005 I'll be trying to register my first car.

Work done so far:
- Stripped interior
- Removed ALL sound deadening
- Removed rust
- Stitch welded entire body
- Painted interior, enginebay and underbody
- Fitted ae92 dash (Wanted something more modern)
- Fitted ae92 wiring loom
Latest:
- Got all lights and pop-up function working

Parts:
Engine:
- 4agze map smallport from ae92 levin gtz
- NA bigport head + cams
- rwd bigport manifold (Still waiting delivery)
- hks cast exhaust manifold
- evo 8 intercooler

Driveline:
- W57 + custom bellhousing
- MS112 Crown diff

Brakes:
- Front haven't decided yet
- Rear 5stud discs from crown

Suspension:
- Stock!

Interior:
- Chopped ae92 levin gtz dash
- electric demistors (next on the list saving $$$)

im loving the curves of the dash, looks shmik. Welding, grinding and general metal fabricating is easy to do and very very useful so all those that cant weld borrow your mates and learn, because look what you can do with it^^^

Thanks for all the approval!! Razz

shcao- It took 3 of us to lift the car, the top of the passenger door frame is resting on a table... Quite stable! Also the top is tied to the side of the shed for safety.

evan- Can't believe you don't like the dash! I love the shape, but also wanted the built in battery and oil gauge!

That last pic of the bellhousing is a custom jobbie W5* to 4ag.

The gbox is a w57 from a ra60 no adapter plate.

In the second pic I haven't swapped over the bellhousings yet...

Ok heres an update. Razz Nothing much has happened, been busy with uni.

Engine is completed ready to go in:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y85/4agtetrueno/IMG_0011.jpg
ae92 4agze block
ae82 bigport head with na cams
rwd bigport intake manifold with tvis removed
hks cast turbo manifold
20v alternator

Haven't got a turbo yet, trying to find a HKS gtss. These are rated to 320ps and are super responsive.
Might just use a t25g first.

Currently doing the brake and diff upgrade:
Front and rear will be skyline r33 gtst brakes with dba slotted rotors. Gabe is making me the same custom front hubs that hes got on his sprinter. Should be ready soon! Very Happy
Rear diff is an F series from a Toyota Crown. Gonna be running a hydraulic handbrake. No LSD yet.

After that it's just the brake lines and fuel lines, mount the radiator and intercooler (Thinking of doing a V mount just to shorten the piping length and make it even more responsive) and it's done!!

Hopefully will have it running by March 2006. This will be on stock suspension though... Sad Have to save more before I even start researching suspension.

looks like the project is coming along nicely. just a question tho, arent the crowns IRS? does this mean that you are putting IRS in teh rear end, such as the rear crossmember and all the goodies?
just asking cause i have a ms123 crown and its IRS....if you are doing this then good on ya! engineering at its best!

I'm assuming he means a live-axle diff from something like an MS112 Crown.

Yeah, but then you think about it and realise you would've never given it the same sort of love and thorough going over the car deserves!

Looks great man, you've done an awesome job. The dash in particular looks awesome, you've solved one of the biggest criticisms I had with the AE85/6, that low-rent interior.

Diff is from a MS112 Crown. So live axle, not crazy enuf and not enough time to try IRS! Razz This is my first car... have been waiting to drive it for over a year now!

Thanks for the comments! I got the idea for the dash from a friend of mine, who put it into an ae82.

I don't think my paintworks that good Razz
It was my first time painting a car, if I had to do it again I would definately take more time/care.

All the sound deadening was removed first, using a chisel and a wire brush on an angle grinder.. Some parts of the interior I went all the way to bare metal - just to remove the left over tar crap from the sound deadening.

Primer I used was redoxide anti-rust zinc primer over all the stitch welds, then just Auto-One Etch Primer over everything, 2-3 coats from memory. I actually applied the etch primer from spray cans before I realised it was cheaper/easier to use an air compressor!

The silver paint you see is an enamel type - 3 coats of that using air compressor. No clear coat.
Black paint is just matt black spray can stuff!

Just curious from other peoples experiences i have just undercoated my car with a rust preventitive (cans) then some rust proof undercoat (cans) then white enamel (cans) this is only interior and engine bay. Any one see a problem with this and lastability compared to jeremys approach?? The undercoat isnt a etch primer.
