KE Engine Conversion... Advice Please

Howdy,
Im looking at a 1981, KE55 cs. I think thats still in the rearwheel year? If so I want to do an engine conversion for more power, but I dont want turbo, or Supercharge.
I was hoping that all those with experience could give me some advice. Im not sure what engine to put in, I thought 4AGE, but I read a link that said that I could come up with fw to rw drive problems. An Ae101 is an engine for a rw drive no? If so, are they any good etc.
ANy tips, experience advice, or preferences would be appreciated.
Cheers
Aidan

First up welcome to the world of the KE corolla .
There are quite a few options for engine coversions for these cars.
The easiest conversion would be to swap the 4K for a 5K. This is a straight swap as they are both K series motors.
Also you could fit a 2TGEU or a 4AGE.
The AE101 corolla's were FWD so using an engine out of one of these would require some mods.
Search the forums for these engines and you will find a heap of info on them. If you have trouble using the search function have a read of the How to search the forum thread.
Also the Tech Docs have a couple of articles on converting FWD 4AGE's to RWD. Alot of the info on 4AGE's is written for sprinters but it is still applicable to older corollas.
Finally I would suggest talking to an engineer as some of these conversions will require engineer approval.
Good luck
Brad

yeah, ta man. HAHAH, ok ive been watching to much initial D, he put an ae101 engine in his car, so i figured, rear wheel engine... Oh well reality, and cartoons dont match, anyway...
Thanks for replying. I want to get the whole thing done with a mechanic... Ive only got $5000 though, so its prolly not enough to do the whole conversion, Do you think?
Hmm I hate getting into deep water.... Especially when Im on a budget, And I know mechanics have a habit of adding things and dollars that you dont need. I was told I can take this too my toyota shop down the road and they can do it... But again I need more research obviously. I will go look at that engined you mentioned.
Cheers

4AGE will likely be the go. If you want to know more, do some serious searching back around previous posts, and then if you've got more specific questions left over, then ask. Another thing, find someone who's done one, and see if you can have a chat to them/look at their car.
