92 Corolla Hatch Engine Swap Help

Hey guys i have a 92 corolla (holden nova actually but pretty much a corolla rebadged). Anyways i was lookin at gettin an engine swap. Pretty sure about gettin a 4agve engine. Im lookin more for straight line speed (quarter mile etc) and from what ive heard this seems the best engine for the job as the 4age 20v is apparently better for circuit racing and stuff. Anyways just wondering how much work would be involved in this, and how much should i expect to pay for it. Also is it just the engine i need or will i need wiring harness, ecu or other parts as well?
Additionally i have heard that an SR20DET swap is possible. Is this a worthwhile option? Is it much more work and how much more would it cost?

Hey, yeah the novas have the crappy 4afe in them. So what exactly ia a half cut? just the front of a car from a write off or somethin? Anyways id expect that the stock engine mounts would be right for the new engine. When u said the loom is that the wiring harness? Sorry im only new to this whole engine business. And i need the ecu right. Also will the current gearbox and clutch be adequate or will they need to be replaced (doesnt bother me coz gearbox is already half stuffed anyways). And then if i do the engine swap is it easy to make some simple horsepower through exhaust etc?

a front cut is the front of a donor car (not a write off) as you need the engine and everything to be fine, that includes everything from the front of the engine bay including some panels up to the instrument cluster. There are a fair few places that sell front cuts, there'll be a few on the site, just do a search
The loom is the wiring harness, and an aftermarket ecu would be best if you're thinking of running higher than stock boost. Some front cuts ive heard come with a gearbox, but dont quote me on that, and you'd be best off with a heavy duty clutch.
Extra power can be made by getting extractors, pod filter, mandrel bent exhaust or whichever you think is best for your setup, and a front mount intercooler rather than a top mount.
NOTE: try get a ae101 MAP 4agze

Cheers mate youve been a great help. So the AE101 is the reccomended donar car but what other alternatives are there and whats better about the AE101. Also ive read about problems may arise with the top mount intercooler as it may sit to high for the bonnet so i may need to cut a section out of the bonnet and replace with a bonnet scoop/vent thingy. Do you know if this is true or not. Also for front mount intercooler is there much room for it to be put in. Does anythin need to be taken out. Dont really wanna take out anythyin unless necessary as its also a daily driver. Sorry to be a pain but im a newbie to all this lol.
So what sorta gear are you running in your rolla?

No worries dude, i was a newbie when i got onto this forum too, learnt everything pretty much from here and few others like http://www.sydneyrollaclub.com
The MAP sensor is recommended because it doesnt restrict the air flow as much as an AFM, and it's newer and has a bit more power than the AFM 4agze.
Making a bonnet scoop for the top mount is true, as it will make it that little bit more efficient to vent out hot air and draft down the colder air, that's why a little bit extra $$$ for a front mount is worth it Should be plenty of room in ae92's, as i know of many that have fmic, he ae82 has plenty of room...
My previous rolla had MAP 4agze with microtech mtx8, exhaust, pod, fmix etc....was very nice car
Current one ive had since January and hasnt had much done due to finances etc. still running 4ac only has 55000km on it, replace it soon hopefully (around 100000km)

Asian Auto Spares at Slacks Creek carries these [07 3208 0133] They have some in stock c/w LSD 2,800 (or with Open Centre diff for 2,500) That is a complete front cut with almost everything you need for the conversion.
I bought my Silvertop front cut from them last year for 1,500 + 400 for the mechanic + 400 for the Auto Elec to wire it + fluids and bits and pieces.
This is mainly to amend Dimmy's estimate.
