Tyre shopping

i currently have S02's all round and i have found them a very good performing tyre, excellent wet weather and dry grip and cornering grip.
Now the prob is they dont make them in 50 profile 15's anymore so i have to buy something else.
heres what ive out getting quotes for. Size is 195/50/15
Bridgestone RE711: These look like a nice tyre but ive heard nothing about them, the tyre dealer said they were almost as good as S02's they dont make them anymore, but this shopw has 4 tyres left at $145 each cleared to go
Dunlop FM901's: a highly reccomended tyre from quite a few ppl.. quoted $185 each
Toyo Proxes Ts1's: heard good things about these, they look like S02's as well... sidewall feels tad soft just from looking at it tho, who can tell me more . quoted $170 each
Kumho712's: to tell u the truth ive never liked kumho's, tramline like hell and are rock hard. but... can someone tell me what they recon of these? Quotyed $123 each
ok.. now disregarding price, whats a better buy?
all i want is GRIP

While I'm only running 14" rims, I have found the FM901's to be excellent. Great in the wet as well! $125 ea, but that is for a 185/60/14
Have you looked at the Goodyear Eagle F1?
Craig.

If all your after is grip, go Kumho 712!! They are made from a silica compound and they grip like shit to a blanket! The only thing is being so gripy and such a soft compound, they dont last that long if your constantly thrashing them! I have these tyres on my Falcon and I'll be using them on my Celica when its up and running!

I have goodyear f1' on mine - and find them to be excellent for my needs - wet weather traction is second do none - they channel SO well - i could hardly make them break traction in QLD downpours
cornering wise - i find them to be plenty grippy for my needs once again - just turn in - boot down - and it hangs on
After having kuhmo's previous - i wouldnt go back - seeing the tryres cost me 20 dollars mora a tyre and are 100 % better for grip

I've had the Toyo T1S on my supra in 225/50/16 and they grip like nothing else, esp in the wet nothing could beat them.
Like basically all ultra-high performance tyres these days, the T1-S is silica-based, that's why it's grippy.
Having said that though, the treadwear isn't the best like all soft grippy rubber, though the T1-S do tend to wear on the edges too much, so I wouldn't buy them again. Maybe something like Toyo TPG next time.. not as soft, better treadwear, cheaper.
As for the Kuhmo's they are also a silica based compound, like other ultra-high performance tyres, though they do represent the cheaper end of this market, and it shows. They are a good tyre, and all, but put it this way.. if you are going from a non-silica compond to the Kumho's you will love them, but maybe not if you compare it to other silica-based tyres and start to take into consideration factors like road noise and their tendencies to squeal a lot around corners. Still, they are good bang for buck.

I was at a track day recently and I was running a set of 195/55 r15 RE711's on my 323gtx, and they were f*%k'n awesome, mega stiff side walls, good positive turn in, prolly very similar to the S02's, @ $145 each I wouldn't hessitate!!
A friend of mine had some T1S's and he wasn't very happy with there performance, he thought the sidewalls were too soft, his tyre's looked twice as thrashed as mine by the end of the day!!
I can't really comment on the Khumo's as I've never driven on them, but any tyre that comes with a 50,000km gaurantee can't be that sticky!!

My bet would be the RE711's, I have a set and they transformed the handling of my car. I have a set of 205/60R15's.
Dry weather grip is crazy, the things just hold on and hold on...
Wet weather and channeling is f'ing AWESOME, I've turned low speed corners in the wet once the rain has stopped and seen little streams shoot past my window...the car can't even shake the tail in the wet unless I'm really vigorous with it.
I'd definetly recommend them!!!

I've got eagle F1's on the front of my car, (205/40 16), and while I'd say they're quite good, they're not overly brilliant. I find they're lasting a lot better than the last set (which were SO2s), and probably hang on a little bit better too, but somehow just don't feel 100% 'right' - also tend to complain a bit around the corners.

to be honest it all matters what you want and you havent said if you want traction then the softest rubber you can get is the best this is also for handling as well but if you want spomething that will last a while but a good alrounder then an inbetween soft and hard and then if you just wanna drive and have a long lasting rubber get a hard compound dont worry whats is what tread the softer rubbers seem to have a cool looking tread which is good for traction and handling but to be honest brand names are nothing its the rubber compound you want.

I bought some Bridgestone RE711's for 140 each for the front only...
and i dont like them compared to the S02 they are very vauge in feeling, understeer a lot and generally feels like crap, noisy also.
so yeah... will do for now wil i chuck them on the back and then get some 901's for the front
