i was wondering if anybody knows of a way to remove the oil shaft bearings on an 18r block without the use of the ever usefull SST tools.
is there a method to get them out and how much do they cost to replace if anybody has done it?
in fact once you get them out, how do you get them back in again?

ok when i removed mine i got the front out by accident and the rear one i just knocked the rear welsh plug in and it came out with it. as for replacing them i couldnt not find any supplier with a listing so i had to reuse some old ones i had laying around in another engine. my advise is dont pull them out.

can you still acid wash the block with the bearings still in or does it eat away at the bearing?

so then i still need to get the bearings out then to get the block washed...poo
method for back one, hammer the welsh plug into the block and this moves the bearing anyway.
method for front one, somehow fluke it out...possibly grab that rear welsh plug when it is out and hammer it from the front?
does that sound about right?

my engine rebuilder got new oil/dizzi drive-shaft bearings for my beast when the 18R was rebuilt in '01
... ask a few suppliers as they might be similar/same to other toy engines.
18Rs featured in quite a few cars and it's possible that suppler X wiill say "no celica 18R bearings" yet seconds later will have a hilux or 'rona with the same engine come up with a listing.
